Sunset Stoop — Restaurant in New York

Having just moved from San Diego to NY last year, I have been on the hunt for bars that have good music. In So Cal, there are any number of bars that have great bands. However, other than paying for tickets in the usual music halls, bands that I enjoy have been elusive (except for blues or jazz because those are plentiful in NYC). Sunset stoop is a 3 minute walk from my house and last year, they had a great band that we really enjoyed. But, we kept searching for other spots. And other than a few notables, we find ourselves realtively disappointed. Last night we were desperate for music and we tried Sunset Stoop again and, I kick myself for this, WHY AM I SEARCHING SOMEPLACE WHEN GOOD MUSIC IS 3 MINUTES FROM ME???

Try this place out. Its small. The service is good even though there is usually only one bartender and lots of patrons, drinks are reasonable, and the music and atmosphere...

I’ve lived in this neighborhood my whole life, born and raised just a few blocks away. Naturally, I like to support local spots, but my experience at Sunset Stoop left me really disappointed.

I stopped by briefly with my dogs and politely asked if they were allowed in the back. At first, the staff said yes, which I appreciated—but then they changed their minds midway, telling me no because my dogs were "too big." Mind you, I had only dropped them off for a second and wasn’t planning to stay long. It felt unnecessarily rude and inconsistent.

To make things worse, no one offered water for the dogs despite the heat. It’s basic courtesy at any dog-friendly spot. The overall service came off unwelcoming and careless. For a neighborhood bar, that’s not the kind of energy I expected.

Sadly, I won’t be back...

Thank you, Roberto! We attended opening night and danced the night away with the Soneros del Oriente (I think that was the name of the Salsa band) 🎶 . We had an amazing time! The ambiance was top tier with a diversity of people of all ages and ethnicities. It felt like you were "en familia". Very cute neighborhood spot with an additional spacious outdoor space.
