When I lived in Flatbush and only had a fixie, I brought that bike to Sanba a number of times. Honestly, the reason I stopped going to them was because there was a shop closer to me with similar services and prices, so why travel farther if I did not have to.
But now, fast forward to present times, my custom Weis road bike has had issues since I got it. The shifting always felt weird and the chain dropped A LOT!!! Weis themselves could not fix it, Tuned could not fix it, so Sanba was my last option before deciding to change group sets completely.
I called first and spoke to Daniel. I explained my situation and he assured me that he got me. So I decided to come in person, speak face to face, show him the bike, in detail explain my issues and let him test ride the bike as well. He gladly rode the bike and LOVED it. He complimented how smoothly it rode, how it cut through the air and that even when he put it through all its paces, up and downhill, the chain did not drop. That SHOCKED me.
My fitter told me to get a smaller crank, which I did through Tuned, and the crank they chose was actually incompatible with my current group set and this was said by SRAM themselves. SRAM said that this is probably why the chain keeps dropping, which makes sense, but the chain used to drop even before the crank change, but not as frequently.
In my rush to Sanba, I realized that I left the previous crank at home. SMH. I was going to have Daniel reinstall it but time was of the essence, so I proceeded to the shop. As mentioned before I begged and pleaded, LOL, with Daniel about my bike and he assured me that he will take care of it.
Well, 2+hours later, my bike was cleaned, tuned up and fixed. I took the bike for a test ride and the shifting between the big and small ring was working well with no dropping. But I said to myself, “Okay, lets see how this bike fairs on my ride to 9W the next day.”
The shop was busy with bikes coming in and going out but there was a fun and friendly vibe associated with it. I bought beers to share with the staff and random customers and it was a vibe.
On my 9W ride, the bike was AMAZING!!! I had absolutely NO issues with the bike, with shifting, NOTHING!!! Daniel and his team were men who kept their word and I was soooo happy with the result. Big name shops are not always the way to go; that is a lesson that I have learned and will keep in mind forever.
Thank you very...
Read moreThere is so much to say about this shop. They do everything fast but don’t pay attention to details. Once they walked me out the door with the wheels fouling the brakes or it happened in the process of me coming back home or folding the bike. Then when I came in the second time for an another issue he gave me the cold shoulder to the point where I asked him do you remember me? I came here before. I told him to tighten a bolt that he said he tightened, but he didn’t and I called him out on it and he tightened it and it was much better. Then the fight happened they are about to send me out the door with a broken bike lever (hopefully unknowingly) because I was confused on why my lever was so squishy and they told me they can’t fix it. I explained to them isn’t as easy as pulling the wires in and they said do it yourself. I took the tool and was gonna do it myself, and In the process we saw that the bike lever was broken. He wasn’t happy as he said you come in here and tell the professionals what to do, but I told him I came here so the professionals can fix it and you’re telling me you can’t and you don’t know what the problem was. To lazy to diagnose the issue. Then he quoted me a price before to fix my breaks 20 but he wanted to do it now for 25 because it’s the break levers and he wasn’t budging. I don’t care about the 5 but it was like he was so cold to me even though I was a previous customer right from the beginning. He kicked me out the store because I told him he can do it for 25 but I’m not gonna come here again. He lost a recurring customer because of five dollars that’s not how you do business. I went to a different shop and they were kinder and he really paid attention to the details and I didn’t even have to mention every little thing. I will say he did straighten out my wheel and he didn’t wanna accept money for it after he kicked me out and the...
Read moreSanba is my new go-to bike shop. Recently moved nearby and had initially taken my beloved bike to Bicycle Habitat for a tune-up/repairs where they tried to charge me close to $500 to replace almost every single part (keep in mind this is an old aluminum frame hybrid that cost $150 to buy new in 2010). At Sanba they looked over the bike, made an initial assessment and estimate on the spot, and identified that the only parts that likely needed replacement were two cables, and everything else could be repaired (e.g. chain could be de-rusted and greased rather than replaced). The bike was ready for pickup the next day and not only had they done a fabulous job with the tune up, they also deep cleaned the bike so well I thought she had new wheels. My bike rode like BUTTER right out of the shop. Smoothest ride in years....
