My family and I are still reminiscing about an amazing dinner we had at Chez Janou in Paris last year and thought it would be a treat to go to Table D'Hote for a lovely Easter brunch. We've lived on the UES since the early 80's and this was singularly the worst brunch we've ever had. Anywhere. Out of two orders of Eggs Benedict and one Roland Garros, we wound up with six hardboiled eggs. In addition, my daughter's sausages were so overcooked (read burned) that she couldn't cut them. We asked that they re-do the four eggs from the Eggs Benedict and, after 10 minutes, they plopped one dripping poached egg on each of our two salads. They said two more would be coming. I asked for some Hollandaise sauce for those soggy, pathetic eggs and they said it was Easter and everyone ordered Eggs Benedict and they didn't have anymore. I said forget it, sent mine back and skipped Easter brunch altogether. Instead of taking our dishes back and making them properly, they brought bits and pieces so that no one was eating together. Instead of conversing, some were eating, some were waiting and I just wanted to go home. No apology, nothing but a bad experience. I understand that the chef/owner must not have been in the kitchen that day, but fair warning should be given so that people don't waste their money or precious family holidays.
To be fair, the potato leek soup was fantastic and the atmosphere is charming, but all-in-all this was nothing but a...
Read moreAfter I made a reservation at Table d'Hote, I started reading the reviews and got really worried: those reviwes were so clearly divided: people either hated it or loved it. Well, all four of us were absolutely blown away by this tiny restaurant : food was beyond delicious, service was extremely friendly and efficient, and our dining area outside couldn't be cuter. We had cod, salmon, ribs, and steak, also beet salad and grilled octopus as appetizers. I would call our group sophisticated restaurant patrons, since we dine out often and in high-end places. This little restaurant can be proudly singled out for the quality of its menu. Everything we ordered, including strawberry shortcake for dessert, was mouthwateringly delicious. Their wine selection was also excellent.Yes, this place is expensive, but so worth it for a...
Read moreThis is a really great hidden gem on the UES. It's a cozy, well-appointed space with a handful of tables and friendly (if a bit pushy) wait staff. The food is always spot on. I've been here twice for brunch and once for dinner, and all three times we've loved it. It's French, so expect relatively small (though reasonable) portions and powerful tastes.
For brunch both times we've gone almost nobody else has been there so the service was great and the food came out very quickly. For dinner it gets crowded and you should probably have reservations. The space is small, so when it's crowded expect a bit of jockeying to get to your seat -...
