I came here on a Friday night with a friend and was greeted by the nice lady at the front. She immediately brought us to the back of the restaurant past the Volkswagen in the middle towards the kitchen where I could smell the food being made. I was already salivating and I didn't even sit down yet. Our waitress brought over some water for us while we looked over the drinks menu. I didn't even pretend to understand what some of the drinks were, but our waitress kindly helped us out by describing the cocktails on the menu. I ended up getting a Pina colada anyway (a lot of their drinks have tequila and that isn't my preference). Looking around, I was surprised as how much space they had on the inside. All of the taco places I've been to were usually cramped, but this one had so much space to move around in, which I appreciated (they even had space to put that Volkswagen in the middle of the restaurant). On the table were pencils which we used to highlight on the menu which tacos we wanted. I got myself the Al pastor, seared fish, and veracruzana. They brought out my Pina colada in a pretty tall glass and I started working on it. Tasty, sweet and cold, probably not the best choice for a freezing day, but the inside was so warm and comfortable so it was fine with me. Then the tacos came out and I was not disappointed. The Al pastor tacos(my favorite) were flavored well and moist, the seared fish tasted so fresh and the shrimp in the veracruzana had the perfect texture and some kick to it. Overall, great experience. Would...
Read moreTacombi is one of those niche places that heavily focuses on tacos and burritos (think expensive Chipotle). They have friendly staff and the atmosphere is full of culture and warmth. However, that is where all the good starts. Let's start with the food itself, which is extremely bland. What makes the food tasty is the condiments, which shouldn't be the case. You would think the tacos and burritos would be well seasoned, but it's not. You know you have good food when you can enjoy it without any condiments, in other words, the condiments compliment the food, they are not essential. This is not the case for Tacombi's food, the condiment is absolutely essential. Next we have to go in to the service. We ordered our food to go and waited 20-30 minutes post order for a few dishes. Keep in mind that this was on a weekend with a low population of customers. They definitely prioritize dining customers over take out or delivery. When you inquire about your meal, you get the same old scripted answer, "It's being cooked, 5 more minutes." Lastly, the ultimate factor to discuss is the price. All their dishes are extremely over priced for what you getting and how much you are getting. I used Chipotle as a base line comparison because of how similar their dishes are. However, Tacombi skips on portion size and gives you a generous portion on price. Overall, I highly recommend you skip this place and look elsewhere for your...
Read moreThis place used to be a good neighborhood place for a relatively quick relaxed lunch offering really tasty and fresh tacos. You would order with the cashier and about 5 minutes later your number was called and you’d go up to the camper van and get your order. Well since last week that has all changed. For some reason you are now seated by a hostess who doesn’t take her job seriously and then waited on by waiters who barely seem out of high school. Last week six of us ordered about 15 tacos between us. After waiting and waiting soon it became apparent that something had gone awry with our order, this happens but in this case the waitress made no effort to inform us that our order would be delayed and when we could expect to get our food. In the meantime we asked for more water from another waiter who grudgingly came back with one bottle for six of us! Finally after 40 minutes our order came but all the tacos were lumped together on plates depending on the type of taco and not what we had individually ordered. It was a disappointing experience especially as the setting and food here are so good- I really hope the owners rethink their service policy either by going back to their old system or hiring competent hostess and wait staff. Until they do we will not...
