Velasca | Men | Shoes — Local services in New York

After searching online for Men's shoes made in Italy, I came across the Velasca web site. Once I learned that they have a store in NYC, I took the ride downtown to check it out. I was not disappointed, a typical small shop south of Houston St, but full of character. After walking in I was promptly greeted by Sara, and asked if I had anything I'd like to see. I picked up a boot and asked if they had it in a 13. Having large sized feet, I've grown accustomed to not finding my size in a store. Sara returned with the boots in a different color to try the size. They were instantly comfortable and one of Sara's coworkers helped me lace them (sorry I don't recall his name 🙂). I was impressed by the quality and great comfort of this boot, so I decided to order them in black and was assured they will arrive in a week. Friendly and attentive service with a high quality product at a reasonable price, what else can you ask for. Being of Italian descent myself, I talked with Sara and her coworker for a few minutes about Italy and their experience with their first US store. Sadly have had a really terrible experience with Velasca shoes. Purchased a pair in Rome and the store clerk advised a size down. Got home to the US and realized that the shoes had been worn and resold to me (there were serious scuff marks on the bottom and when I tried wiping them off, shoe polish came off on the rag, which I suppose means they tried to cover them up). The body of the shoe was okay, so I decided to give them a try. Wore them a few times around the house to try and stretch them. Decided to wear them to work last week and it was a huge mistake. My feet were absolutely destroyed. The entire backs of my heels were stripped of a couple layers of skin (pictures available upon request) and the extensor tendon in my right foot was bruised and had a massive knot on it for days. Took the shoes into the NY location to explain the situation and Emmanuel said that because they had been work, there was nothing they could do. When I explained that they had been worn previously, he just kept asking if I had worn them. He absolutely did not care that the store had sold me worn shoes. 5 stars for these shoes and the service at this store!! Emmanuel was great. I actually arrived about 10 mins before they were closing and there were two customers that he was helping. By the time he finished with the other customers it was definitely time for him to close the store but he graciously let me continue to try on shoes and never once made me feel rushed or like I needed to decide faster. By the time I finished I had stayed in the store for at least 20 mins after closing and he remained patient, polite, and extremely helpful! This is my second pair of this brands shoes and I will continue to purchase more.
