This is a different kind of bagel than the New York standard. Different tastes for different people, I'm sure plenty of people like these bagels.

First of all the dough is a bit lighter, closer to regular white bread, but still on the bagel side of that spectrum. The bagel is large in diameter, with a very large hole in the middle, resulting in far less actual dough. The crust is very pleasantly crispy and chewy, combined with the lighter bready portion, makes for a nice savory texture. Unfortunately it's all topped off with less than generous toppings, which seems to be all too common these days (I've heard of the cream cheese shortage, but not the poppy seed or sesame seed shortage). The usual wide variety of cream cheeses, spreads, and the locks are up to the New York standard.

Ultimately not my favorite place, but above acceptable for your...

The owner or manager was disengaged when I entered as the only customer at 8:30 am on a Sunday; a simple greeting would have sufficed. However, the crew provided great service overall, which I appreciated.

The ambiance reminded me of getting bagels in NYC, with an appealing setup and tempting spreads. The lox spread was decent, and my wife's "BEC" bagel was average. While the bagels here are better than some I've had elsewhere, they don't compare to true NY bagels, and I plan to visit H&H before leaving town.

Unfortunately, the "well done bacon" and "crispy" hash brown I ordered for my daughter were soggy, likely due to poor wrapping or maybe (?) a microwave oven. As a result, she barely ate anything...

The guys running the shop are super nice and hardworking people! But to give a fair review of the food only here are my thoughts: -I would eat here again only if I was walking by and craving a bagel. I would not go out of my way to go here or even make an effort to stop by every time I’m in the area. I ordered an everything bagel with lox schmear and an iced coffee. The bagel itself had very little toppings which was sad for an everything bagel. Lox spread was good. Coffee can be purchased elsewhere for better taste and quality but if you want to get everything at one spot, it wasn’t too bad.

Overview: -should you go here? —- are you hungry and in a rush to get to your meeting? Yes. —- do you want a...

Tal Bagel is a bagel shop in Stuy Town. the eatery makes a variety of bagels fresh every hour. there’s some seating. however most people grab n go. beyond bagels, Tal serves coffee, a variety of baked treats like Babkas, and there are other savory options like knishes. the shop is super clean and very well maintained. most recently, ordered an everything bagel with lox spread, red onions, and capers. it was delicious. great bagels don’t need to be toasted and Tal’s serves great quality bagels. Slight crispness with a chewy soft inside. the lox spread has that fatty lox umami, and the red onion + capers adds a couple of more flavors to round out any bagel sandwich. the staff are super friendly and work hard.

We have been coming here every week for 12 years for coffee and bagels.last year they also added breakfast sandwiches which we always order. They spruced the place up last year with new paint, lighting tables and overall layout. Great improvements all around. We see some of the same local people everytime we go so it is a nice local hangout. Back again today for bagels. We try to come in at least once a week. Today we had bagel sandwich with eggs and bacon. Delicious. Then we had a bagel, cream cheese, smoked salmon, tomato and onion. Really good. And coffee of course. Bagels are always fresh.

Finally checked Tal Bagels off my list. Overall it is a very mediocre bagel spot. I might not go back again. Their 1st Ave location is spacious with many indoor seatings and a restroom. The service was lacking as I had to remind our server a few times I wanted my bagels to be toasted. We thought it would be a great spot to work or study. The bagel texture is soft, fluffy and flat. Yet both sesame bagels are not fully seasoned with toasted sesame. BEC bagel tastes standard. Tofu veggie spread is my staple at any bagel shops. This one is quite bland, yet it has a bold tofu flavor.
