Taqueria El Fogon — Restaurant in New York

I’m seeing all the five-star reviews and wondering if I ordered the wrong thing or did something to offend the chef. Came here on a rainy cloudy day for a quick bite and ordered the chilaques (eggs on fried flour tortilla chips with roja sauce and avocados) and my partner ordered a chorizo burrito, and we each had a grapefruit Jarrito. The total was $35(!). The folks working were friendly and our food came quickly. This is where I’m just so dumbfounded. My food had absolutely no flavor, even after I sprinkled salt on it. Neither did the chorizo inside the burrito. How do you remove flavor from chorizo? How does roja sauce taste more like the tortillas than savory, robust red sauce that I’ve had at other less-rated Mexican joints? Mysteries of the universe. After this meal I needed to eat something with overwhelming flavor to undo this...

Well I’ve wanted to try this place for ages but ended up super disappointed. Maybe better to have in restaurant than to take to go. I took my burrito on the train and the packaging completely broke like it was nothing more than tin foil. Got on my stuff, my hands, it was gross to carry.

Then I get to my location, open up my veggie burrito— it is 100% rice and beans. Nothing but rice and beans. One tiny corner of the burrito was a little sour cream and pico de gallo but otherwise. rice and beans.
