This place was a pleasant surprise. Somewhat of a hidden gem of Williamsburg. Had the Mac n cheese pie with Texas toast n it was amazing. Couldn't finish it all though. The Mac and cheese came on a hot skillet by the way(nice presentation). It was roughly about $20 per person including drinks. Definitely giving this place big thumbs up. S/N: They don't skimp on alcohol. Got a Jim Bean with ginger ale n it was strong but great. Oh and I forgot to mention that there is Kool-Aid on the menu... Just gonna let that soak in lol

Came for brunch when literally every other place in Brooklyn had a 1.5 hour wait. Here was only a 30 minute wait but we ended up getting seats at the bar. The chicken and waffles were SUPER good and I loved the grapefruit with it adding a fresh/sweet touch as the top had a sugar glaze. Drinks were pretty pricey so It’s not your typical bottomless place BUT would definitely come back just to try more food. Also pretty cool/chill atmosphere with good music

We had a great Mother's Day brunch. One of the few places that accepts reservations for large groups for brunch. The staff is great and patient (I had my 3 young children with me). The drinks were great...highly recommend the sparkling cocktail. And the food was great. The lumberjack breakfast, shrimp and grits, and the chicken and waffles were really good. Definitely get the biscuits, they have to be the best in Brooklyn.

I’ve gone through a few phases of Brooklyn Star.

  1. Pimm’s cups - their Pimm’s Cups are DEE-LIGHTFUL. This was phase one - I would go in and request this same drink each and every time.

  2. Wine and chocolate bread pudding.

I’m gonna be real, my reaction to wine is typically “the cheapest red one you got" so my review is based on that. But to have a relaxing environment with a nice $7 glass of (I believe the Rioja) red wine is a great experience anywhere. There was also a period of time where my roommate was addicted to the chocolate bread pudding and I was happy to tagalong and help her eat it. Let me tell you it will change your life. SO GOOD. Make that happen.

  1. “Brunch" and John Daly’s. I put brunch in quotations as I have not actually had a full brunch there. As you can tell by my review my review is mainly based on the drinks of this establishment and that is because I’m a vegetarian and can’t enjoy what I’m told is some great food. Now don’t get me wrong, I’ve had a few things and they were delicious. But I don’t think I can give a full review. However, i can tell you their biscuits and donuts are HEAVENLY and a basket of each is $4 at brunch so this is a MUST. Another must is the John Daly’s -alcoholic Arnold Palmer’s. You can’t taste the alcohol so they’re quite dangerous but PERFECT for Sunday Fun day.

Overall I

One star for the restaurant’s interior design. One star for the service. I had the shrimp and grits and neither the grits nor the shrimps were tasty. Blend. Blend. Blend. I have an advice for the chef. Please go on vacation to New Orleans and go to Surrey’s Café & Juice Bar. Get the shrimp and grits and you’ll taste the difference. You can also try the lobster Mac and Cheese at a place named Cowbell. Learn from the best and you’ll improve. The fried chicken was ok (it could have been more tasty though). According to my friends, the fried pork chops were fine. It might sound a bit direct but you can’t be called a “ Southern restaurant “ if you can’t get the shrimp and grits right. It’s just my...

Stopped in for a bite to eat around 8pm on a Friday night. Front bar area was full but the huge dining area at the back was fairly empty and we were seated promptly.

We ordered the Mexican sweet corn, octopus and grits and the smoked bone marrow. Marrow was my favorite dish - three huge bones served with thick toast points and an onion jam - super delicious. Close second was the corn - sweet with a little char and ample toppings. I wasn't a massive fav of the octopus, which came with grits, cornmeal fried okra and a gravy which were all a bit heavy and stodgy with the octopus, however the octopus was well cooked and tender.

I would definitely go back if I was in...
