The bar has a good vibe overall, music is good, the look and feel are all good and stylish. Now to the point:
where things fall down is the fact that they take every opportunity to rip you off. I've been to this place on a few occasions, normally I sit at the bar. This last time the bar was full so I got a table, HUGE HUGE mistake!
I was on a date so just 2 people. Just to get a table for 2 they charge a " large party" fee like you normally see when you're with 7 or more people. At Deia, 2 people are considered a large party. this was just the start. We ordered 4 drinks, 2 non alcoholic ginger beers and two whiskey with ginger ale and one order of their plantain chips and one order of their beef empanadas. The whiskey Ginger was the same price as their signature drinks. A drink that is made with house whiskey and ginger ale cost as much as their complex made up signature drinks! How this makes sense I don't know.
When we called for the check the waitress comes with the hand held POS machine. I asked to see the list of what we ordered because I couldn't understand why the bill was over $70. But it gets interesting, you have to pay and sign off on the charges BEFORE you can get a print out of what you're being charged for. I tipped the waitress! I should t have honestly.
She was trying to find all kinds of reasons as to why they couldn't give me a printed receipt. I signed the bills and selected the print receipt option. but she said that was wrong and I should have selected the option to have it texted to me. it's only when I pressed the issue that I don't understand what I'm being billed 70+ dollars for that she went to the bar and got my printed receipt that she brought over wet.
I was shocked at the price for a house whiskey ginger and I asked her so you charge that much for this and she simply said yes. then I asked why were we being charged a large party fee for 2 people. her response was " they charge 20% to everybody" I'm like what, I get charged 20% just to sit at the table. it's like a damn taxi there is a base fare before you even order one thing.
I'm gonna pause here I was so pissed (btw their empanadas was basic, I make better at home, the ground beef was barely seasoned). It's a nice Caribbean bar in a rapidly gentrifying neighborhood. And they're trying to scam their crowd. Wouldn't be surprised if they start seeing a decline in patronage once people catch on to the scamming. smh, damn man, I liked the vibe but now it's off my list because I don't like...
Read moreI had a really disappointing and frankly insulting experience at this bar. I came to support my DJ friends and ordered food from a staff member who appeared to be a server. After waiting thirty minutes with no update, I found out my order was never placed because the staff assumed I wanted free food—without ever asking me or clarifying anything. Instead of simply communicating, they just ignored my order based on their own baseless judgment.
When I brought it up, the bartender looked concerned, but the person claiming to be the owner was dismissive and full of contradictions. First, he said the kitchen was closed. Then he said I should’ve ordered at the bar. Then he said it was a cocktail bar. None of these excuses actually addressed why they assumed I wasn’t going to pay. Instead of taking responsibility, he just talked in circles and never once apologized or admitted any mistake. Instead, he tried to make me feel guilty for not ordering at the bar and even blamed me for ordering from the barback—when I had no way of knowing that the person wasn’t allowed to take orders. If that was the case, why didn’t anyone just tell me the right way to order instead of jumping to unfair conclusions?
Even worse, the owner canceled my order in a completely arbitrary way without ever trying to communicate. As a business owner, why didn’t he care about losing a customer? And why, in just twenty minutes of being there, was I perceived as someone trying to get free food? The whole thing felt ridiculous and unfair.
The only person who made me feel like my experience actually mattered was the bartender, but unfortunately, he wasn’t in a position to do anything about it.
And to top it all off, as I was saying goodbye to my friends because after all of that I didn’t want to be there anymore , right before leaving the owner came up with the nastiest attitude and sarcastically offered me the sandwich they had finally made. At that point, it was obvious they never had any intention of making things right—it just felt like an afterthought, or worse, a way to mock me.
At first glance, the place looks nice, and the drink menu seemed appealing, but I never even got the opportunity to try anything because of how poorly I was treated. Based on this experience, I won’t be coming back to a place that operates with this kind of attitude...
Read morethis is in regards to a disgusting event around my drink. I’m leaving this comment because they need to be aware of what happened.
Long story short, the drink that came out was not good. It was really bad actually. No problem I alerted The Waitress, but this is where it got really disgusting.
After back-and-forth, I asked to get a simple Prosecco drink. However, The Waitress came back with a drink. That was the same color as the one I sent back, but now in a martini glass versus a tumbler.
I took a sip of the drink, immediately knew it was the same exact drink, but played it off. I was so disgusted. She tried to play like I wouldn’t know. Why would someone do that? And the worst of it is there was an orange slice in there that had a mark on it and I told her I didn’t want garnish when she brought back the other drink. It was the same exact orange slice.
I don’t understand why someone would go out of their way.
I of course did not drink the drink. This has made me question ever coming back to relax & feel safe knowing my drink is being handled safely.
The other reason why this entire incident was so perplexing is because there was no anger or frustration. The Waitress and I spoke to each other very lovely. I wasn’t upset with the service. There was nothing to complain about. It just was a simple mess up with a drink and I just wanted another one since it didn’t taste good. I still don’t understand how something so simple and innocent turned into me having the same drink served to me twice but in...
