Since Covid I have not voiced any issues with restaurants / hospitality given challenging conditions. However, my offensive experience at The Flower Shop forces me to speak out. For background, I am a new mom to a now 3 month old son. My friend is recently engaged and hosted a small get together at The Flower Shop’s rooftop - please note we are a well behaved, small group in our mid-30s.
Given the outdoor setting and large, accommodating reservation, I planned to bring my son to say hello to our friends for a quick drive-by. The manager at the space went out of his way to not just make us incredibly uncomfortable, but full-on shamed me for "bringing my child to a bar" and said he would not serve me any alcohol as the "mother". Within our first 5 minutes of arriving the manager physically bumped into the stroller with my son inside (100% intentional to make a point), and threw his hands up in the air and said "this is not working for me, you need to leave". My husband asks if he can finish his drink and says he is the baby's father. The manager then proceeds to tell my husband that it's fine for him to stay, it's "the mother and the baby that need to leave."
As a new mom, this type of judgement hit really hard emotionally and was quite frankly embarrassing. Of course I do not want to "bring my child to a bar", I stand by the fact that the circumstances were more than safe. It's shocking that this type of abrasive and sexist behavior is still tolerated in NYC of all places in 2022. I hope to see improvements in staffing and general attitude from The Flower Shop...
Read morePetite rooftop bar with small selection of snacks. Seating is intimate, city views are incredible. Staff was friendly and courteous; bar/table side service was attentive and not intrusive. Very low-key and unpretentious. Reservations highly recommended if you want one of their cozy tables, otherwise, there is seated and staying room at the bar.
The entrance is somewhat difficult to find — walk around the Walker Hotel building to Cortland Ally, it’s the second metal, non-description door, just up a handful of stairs, on the right. Knock and someone will check your IDs/Vaccination status, then lead you around a back hallway to a dedicated service elevator to the rooftop. (Bar is not accessible from the Walker...
Read moreGreat view tonight! Unfortunately we had rude and unresponsive service, and beware your bill amount- they must auto-incorporate tip, which is great if I’m able to see a breakdown on a receipt ahead of time, but when the tablet screen only flashed my total $ after I tipped and she quickly pulled the screen away from me I said “that can’t be correct, that’s far more than I expected, can I please have a receipt?” Both bartenders refused to show me, telling me “how am I supposed to show you your receipt when we don’t have a printer up here?” then ignoring me for half an hour. This isn’t hospitality. It was not busy enough for that level of disrespect and the length of time we patiently waited for every...
