We went for Sunday brunch. The host was friendly and surprisingly was able to sit us down in about 15 minutes. As soon as we walked in, it was obvious how busy they were. Ambiance was great with the sunroof and open feeling. We were excited as our friend had been there before and talked highly of their food. So we ordered and waited... and waited.. and waited. 1 hr and 45 minutes later or so, we still did not get our food. We had our drinks (mimosa did not taste like a mimosa, more like watered down orange juice). We asked our server if our food is coming out soon, he said they're very short ( 3 cooks are out or something and the manager is helping out at the back). Those were his words. So ofcourse, we were quite understanding and still waited. Meanwhile we were noticing that a few of the other customers around us ( who came almost 1 hr after us) were starting to get their food). As you guessed, we asked our host again. This time, he looked more annoyed than before. Finally our food came ( we ordered 2 butcher burgers-both medium rare), brisket benny, and steak & eggs). Burger was very well done and the fries that came with it were hard and overcooked. My friend's steak was burnt and very dry. She didn't get a steak knife, so we tried to catch the server's attention multiple times. And was able to get another server's attention after about 3-4 attempts. She got the knife and asked if they have some steak sauce (meat was bland although it was overcooked). It was so unbelievable how the service just really went downhill after that. The server kept sighing each time we call him. At first he said he'll be back with the sauce. After 15 mins, still no sauce. And then another 10 mins. Another guy passed by and said they actually don't have steak sauce and offered aoli sauce. All these time, our friend was waiting while the rest of us ate our food grudgingly as we've already lost our appetite from waiting. We paid for an overpriced brunch and left purely disappointed. Our friend apologized to us for recommending Nomo Soho. Only thing funny about the whole thing was that my friend ordered a drink called "Nomo Regrets", but in the end all we had from that day were regrets.
Sorry not sorry for this review. So for anyone thinking of eating at this place, you can go for the ambiance but don't expect too much from the food and service. There are many other food options in Soho and a lot...
Read moreJust don’t do it to yourself. First let me start with how many times I need to email the rep back and forth. I even had to call to try and get a response from them about reservations. But wait!!! It gets better. The food is straight catfish!! Our food comes out cold and we have no utensils to eat. My steak had a blood clot, I had just my eggs 🙃 from my steak and eggs. They give you the toughest piece of meat. Just gross. They tried to give my friend “casamigos reposado” it was not at all tequilla, but then what to charge us for it??? Aside from the drinks and food coming out wrong and late, the waiter was extremely rude. When we ask for his assistance his words were “wait I am extremely busy”. We were all given mix matched forks(dinner forks, dessert forks, etc). When it was brought to the attention to the manager. He gave us a $64 dollar discount which included the removal of the cutting fee. We brought a surprise cake for the birthday girl. WE HAD TO CUT OUR OWN CAKE. We tried to make the cake a surprise so we spoke to the hostess on the side. The waiter then announces the cake to the table, WELP there went the surprise. The waiter then handed us a knife and he stated that he was told by the hostess (he was probably the only enjoying part of the experience, he really needs to take his talents else where) that we wanted to cut our own cake. Who wants to cut their own cake during brunch at a restaurant? The experience overall was not worth a dime that we spent let along the automatic tip that was given to the waiter. The manager was not apologetic what so ever and made it seem like the 64 dollar discount was suppose to make up for the experience. I asked if we can receive complimentary shots to make up for the experience, “I already gave you a discount” and proceeds to show me the 64 dollars he discounted on the bill on the kiosk, aka the removal of the “cake cutting fee”. He gave us fake patron. We all left them behind. Legit gasoline! Thanks again Nomo Kitchen for making my best friend’s...
Read moreGo somewhere else if you want to be treated as well as white clients. Racist restaurant manager!
I was at NOMO for my team Holiday dinner earlier this month and had a horrible experience.
Though my server was completely apologetic after spilling red wine all over my tote (containing my laptop), leather handbag, and splashing it on me, staining the cuff of my sweater-- the manager, Jean Paul was not apologetic.
I didn't immediately realize the server had also soaked my bag containing my laptop, until I had finished wiping down my handbag.
While I was wiping down my things Jean Paul apologized to the white European family seated next to be, whose white coat had gotten red wine splashed on it. He took the coat, offered to dry clean it by tomorrow morning, and took their contact info. Nothing was said to me.
Not once did he check on me to make sure my things were okay, or offer assistance. I had to ask him twice for a paper bag after realizing my laptop bag had gotten soaked. He never got me one.
When I looked inside my laptop sleeve was soaked with red wine, and there was red wine all over my keyboard, beading. I immediately began wiping it with a napkin.
As an Asian American woman I felt that the manager didn't take my concerns seriously when I told him red wine had been spilled all over my things, including getting into my laptop. Nor did he offer to give me his direct email, only his name and general card for NOMO Kitchen reservations.
I met with the hotel manager but doubt that any action was taken with the restaurant manager Jean Paul. All they did was apologize for the "perceived" biase.
Though I doubt he received anything more than a slap on the wrist, no person of color will be patronising NOMO Kitchen again if they are treated like I was--no matter how good the food is.
I posted this review also to Yelp and the restaurant manager reacted to it by voting that it was "Funny". No, you being racist and biased...
