[The Monnroe] had their pre-Grand Opening event on Thursday evening, February 20th from 6:00-8:00 PM. Most of the attendees were part of an ongoing series of art lectures and sessions held in various locations across the city by the lead instructor. A group of New York based intellectuals and professionals from a wide range of disciplines who form these art classes. The interior space as described by its proprietor [Drew] said “We just opened tonight,” and described it as a newly renovated performance space within a Victorian-styled bar and cafe, which welcomes everyone. A truly great place. Innovative and with enough room to dance and disco if the furniture was rearranged for one. In close proximity to the local subway stations on the Lower Side of Chinatown’s up-and-coming East Broadway corridor, it will certainly add into its repertoire of real cool places of interest. Plus a new hangout for trendy bars and local artists.

Keep an eye out for this great new addition to the Lower East Side! The owner and staff were very welcoming and made us feel like old friends. Be sure to ask about the food options they have available as well, the pork bao buns and jambalaya were a welcome surprise and cooked to perfection! Not to mention the comfortable and well curated space, accompanied with a pool table. Discovered that they cook fresh waffles in the mornings and have a great coffee selection. Looking forward to becoming a recurring customer.

After a long day skating at LES skatepark, I stumbled into The Monroe and couldn’t have picked a better spot to unwind. The Guinness was perfectly poured, the mushroom cheddar quiche hit the spot, and the chill vibes made it easy to relax. There’s a pool table if you’re looking to hang a bit longer, and the owner, Drew, is friendly and welcoming — makes you feel right at home. I’ll definitely be back soon.

Tucked beneath the Manhattan Bridge where Chinatown meets the Lower East Side, The Monroe strikes a rare balance: understated, inviting, and quietly intentional. A coffee shop, bar, and kitchen in one, it offers a space that feels lived-in without trying too hard.

Right across from the well-known skate park under the bridge and a short walk from Pier 35 by the East River, it’s remarkably calm for this stretch of the city. No crowds, no chaos—just well-made drinks, solid bites, and an atmosphere that’s easy to settle into, whether you’re flying solo or meeting up.

The vibe is naturally diverse and open—a little tucked away, but not unapproachable. I did hesitate writing this, part of me wants to keep it under the radar. But more than that, I hope The Monroe stays and thrives. It...
