I've been passing this establishment omw from work to the Lorimer train station for a few weeks now. At first I thought it was just another vintage overpriced thrift store that one sees all around Williamsburg, until I read the "plus size vintage" sign meticulously advertised on the window storefront. As someone who has not only gained quite a bit of weight over quarantine, but is also paying her way thru school, I have to shop for vintage clothing very carefully, not buying items in
During Covid many of the fitting rooms were closed and so it was a guessing game most the time I would shop. I couldn't try on the clothing and therefore would end up with a few pieces that didn't fit right and I could not return. To say I was treading cautiously, is an understatement.I kept saying "I'll go in one day, I'll go in" and today was that day! My coworker and I (both plus size) made googly eyes over this floral print, button down dress in the window. We decided to go in and were NOT disappointed.
The shop is a good size. It has a fitting room and a sitting area. It's brightly decorated, and every rack, table display, even corners will catch your eye. We saw the cutest coin purses/wallets. A cute air brushed Britney Spears t-shirt. A ramen themed purse and some bomb a** jewelry! All were priced VERY reasonable, some earrings started at $15, purses at $25 etc. The racks in front were arranged in color order and there were so many dresses from 12 & up. We eyed a few pieces but we're on adulting and budgeting so we agreed to get one thing each (keeping each other accountable yayy!)
The sales ladies were all beautiful, with unique styles ,and all kind. They offered some wonderful advice on how to shop vintage as a plus size woman. I bought a Zara's body con, striped halter top dress, brand new with the tag for $35. My coworker purchased a pair of tiger earrings for $15. There was another body con dress I was eyeing that I hope is there when I go again. The shop is worth going to. Hopefully the more I go in, I'm be able to find some rare, dope pieces.

Read morei wanted to love this store. and i thought i did. cute accessories, and a good selection of clothes. the reason i am leaving this review is a mixture of the attitude i have gotten in store from employees because of my autism and the exorbitantly priced items they have been marketing. i mainly went to plus bklyn to sell (at least 4 times) because i was having severe financial issues and could not afford basic necessities. i have severe anxiety and am autistic and when i feel uncomfortable i tend to ramble. every time this started to happen in plus bklyn (which was every time i went, as i was in a very vulnerable position) i felt incredibly judged by the staff. i understand someone oversharing about their life is not fun, but because of my autism them choosing to give me passive aggressive comments and a poor attitude that made me feel like i was an inconvenience and bother for even coming in to sell hurt me far more than them directly asking me to be quiet. rolling your eyes at a customer because they’re rambling (in a completely empty store) isn’t okay. i also find it insane that some shein items i sold to them are being resold for $15 (a mesh top) when i paid $5 for it. the vintage is at insane prices, items i got at goodwill for $5.99 were sold for $40-60. i LOVE my bumper sticker and pin from this store, and do commend them as they replaced my bumper sticker when my original one was poor quality, but the pin i had and absolutely love did break and i was too scared of the staff to reach back out. i understand my poor mental health isn’t their fault, but the way i felt in the store was worse than at other businesses that promote being welcoming like...
Read moreI visited Plus BKLYN a week and a half ago. I was looking for a very specific style and color, and only had a short time available to shop. I called ahead to see if the store carried my size and if it seemed like they might have anything in stock in the colors and vibe I was going for.
To my surprise, this shop is actually really size inclusive with a wide arrange of sizes up to at least 6x! (I’m very confident that some of the clothes would have accommodated for a few sizes larger because of the style and stretch of the fabric too!)
The person who answered the phone was incredibly nice and personally checked to see what they had in stock that fit the colors and look I was going for. When I arrived to the store, I only had a short time to shop, since I had tickets to a show that night in the theater district. The entire team pitched in, helping me to put together a variety of outfit options, including accessories, for my event. I ended up purchasing two dresses and a pair of earrings - more than I came in for - because of the reasonable prices and quality of inventory!
Since then, I have told many friends about this store! As a “super plus size” woman, it’s difficult to find stores that cater to customers of my size. They had a great selection of colors and styles and I know that the next time I’m in NYC, one of my first stops will be Plus BKLYN!
A huge THANK YOU to the amazing staff for making this a fun experience rather than the stressfest that I was...
