I have drank (a lot) on 6/7 continents and this is hands down my favorite bar ever. The drinks are incredible (great whiskeys, delicious cocktails, awesome beers on tap), Mike (owner/bartender) is an amazing bartender and overall awesome guy, the ambience is top notch...it's the best version of the neighborhood bar there could be. High quality drinks, none of the pretentious BS or astronomical prices you'll find at other NYC bars.
Mike/Travel Bar were so great to us from our first time there. My wife and I, along with many of our friends have had incredible times here. Travel Bar provided the specialty cocktails for our wedding, we've celebrated many birthdays at the bar, entertained out of towners, and stumbled in randomly just to have a great drink.
We recently moved out of BK, but we're already planning our next trip back. Can not recommend Travel Bar highly enough. It's just really unfortunate they no longer serve the 1/1 rare tequila Mike once hid...

Not a huge whiskey expert or staunch lover by any means but can greatly appreciate a wonderful hot toddy in the Fall and Winter and Travel Bar and deliver that excellently among many other amazing cocktails. Have truly never had a poor or mediocre drink there! When I lived in Carroll Gardens this spot was my 'special treat' spot to go solo, sit at the stools and people watch and drink an ever-so-tasty $$$ but quality beverage. One of the bar tenders is super not friendly but they still make excellent drinks so it didn't irk me too much. An older gentleman perhaps the owner once had a flaming tasting and was very passionate, sweet, and fun to chat with. It's never too crowded every time I've been and they always play excellent music like Depeche Mode/Cure type vibes and I love that. Highly...

First and foremost, Mike is super knowledgeable, creative, loves the craft, and most of all very nice and kind.
You might find maybe a place or two in the city that have as large a selection of whiskies, but definitely not with the same uniqueness, and personal effort put into it to curate it for your enjoyment.
It's one of the few places that have the rare Athyr - Lebanese single malt whisky
You can try many whisky infusions and cocktails, especially the Dark Malt old fashioned, one of my favorite.
Do you need more convincing? It really is that good, head there and try it out...
