Uncle Bill's Diner — Restaurant in New York

I just finished having an extremely awkward breakfast. When I walked in I asked where I could be seated and got a bit of an attitude. He strongly suggested to sit by the front door. I sat down and waited for a menu. It's really cold and rainy out. There is a major draft where I was sat and my ear instantly froze. I raised my hand for someone to come over. Everyone shook their heads because they were not my waiter. I still flagged them anyway. I asked if I could be seated elsewhere because its freezing where I was. I once again got an attitude that this was the best single seat available. This place was under 50% capacity. I could have easily sat somewhere with more than two seats but he refused to let me. I finally changed to another suggested location and had two staff approach me immediately. They asked why would I bother moving to where I did. I replied you literally gave me 2 options because I'm eligible for only single seats. Now I have the whole place upset at me because I sat down in their suggested seat and one person proactively moved me over one space (group seat) so I am not cold. This was a bit too much to deal with first thing in the morning. To make matters worse the WHOLE staff decided to stare me down during my entire meal. Too bad they didn't notice me patiently waiting to order a drink with my breakfast which I didn't get until...

So I've been coming here for quite some time now, as of late the food has been going down in quality. They burned the burger, the stuffed filet of sole (which i usually order) had some of the mushiest and nauseating crabmeat stuffing I've ever tasted. Since my family and I frequent this diner quite often and EVERY Saturday for our favorite chicken lemon soup (which is only served on Saturdays) I decided I would jus have the burger swapped for some buffalo wings I would take the loss on the Stuffed filet. Bringing my concern of the ill tasting stuffed filet up to the waiter prompted him to offer me something in its place which I thought was very kind and customer service friendly. He comes back to the table to tell me he will not be able to change the order because his boss says "there is nothing wrong with the food". I could have sworn it was, I, the customer who was ordering, eating and paying for my food. She could not get up and come speak with us despite the fact she was sitting only 3 tables away. Sorry for bothering you while you are taking and eating at your place of business. I love the staff but all else is now...

-I just want to say, I work in the food industry and it’s very difficult for a place to have great customer service, amazing tasting food, great time management, and cleanliness. Every single time, this place has all the above. Consistently. (Been coming here for about 5 years). Special shout out to our waiter Giovanni, we have the pleasure of having him pretty frequently. Highly recommend.

(Previous review below): My husband and I have been coming here for a few years now... Every time we’ve come, the food has been great, great flavor and portions... We’ve had the spaghetti and meatball, the london broil, salmon, shrimp alfredo, good soups as well... the breakfast has always been perfect, great thick vanilla milkshakes and a few other dishes..
