We had a reservation on Valentine’s Day and as expected it was fully packed. When we got there we were thankfully seated promptly as a few tables were open, but the tables were so close to each other. It was impossible to not hear other tables’ conversations.

Since they were packed the service was pretty slow. Even with five diff people moving around, it took nearly 20 mins to take our order and we didn’t get our main dish until after an hour of being there. Apps were served right away so that was a plus! Surprisingly, even the drinks took some time.

They had a Valentine’s Day special menu, which basically was just their normal pasta menu.

For apps, we got the burrata and prosciutto which was so delicious. Good portion size. This was probably the best part of dinner.

For mains, we got a gnocchi w/ mussels pasta and another pasta (forget the name). The gnocchi was chewy and delicious but the sauce was a bit watery and bland. The dish wasn’t bad as they were generous with the mussels but overall it was a pretty standard pasta. The other pasta dish was inconsistently cooked- some parts undercooked some parts overcooked.

We got two glasses of red wine and no desserts, given we had been there for almost 1.5 hours after mains and needed to go to our next destination.

Overall, with the OK food, slow service, but still relatively high check we probably wouldn’t go back again unless a friend really...

DO NOT EVER COME HERE!!!!!!!!!

By far the worst restaurant in Astoria. Take your business to L’ncontro down the block. This place has Miserable, disrespectful servers. Wildly overpriced across the entire menu.

This was the worst experience I ever had in a restaurant! If possible I would not even give one star. I and my husband went there on 04/09 at 7:40pm. The waitress took 40 minutes to serve our wine and only did so cause we asked for. She was slamming doors, answering phone and delivery guys rude, setting down tables ruthlessly, letting things fall down on floor and the sensation was of a war environment around of us. None of the tables were served any food...people waiting and nothing. When the waitress was in the back kitchen we could hear she and the chef fighting and arguing with each other. So, after more than one hour our food arrived - nothing special, really small portion for the price. I asked for cheese and she pushed back. So we ate and she was rushing to get the check back to see the tip, my husband had not even signed the paper and she pulled it twice. When we stand to leave she complained about the tip with sarcasm...unbelievable! I said the service was bad, food took forever....and we left there completely feeling nervous with the whole treatment of the place. I don’t recommend this restaurant to...

Horrible service.

Just terrible.

I have never written a bad review before. I try to be understanding that wait staff can be having a bad day, but this went beyond the pale. The waiter/bartender/bouncer, who took our order, served us a salad and then promptly ignored us while others around us finished entire meals, (and they came in AFTER us). He was extremely rude when my wife merely questioned why there was such a long wait for our food. Told us we should pay up and leave. Honestly, the man was so dismissive and rude to my wife. Seemed to definitely have an anger problem. Should not be front of the house staff. Please, read the other reviews about this restaurant. There are many many reviews about the awful service. They are not lying. If you like to be treated as a valued customer, don't bother to come to this place. There are far far better restaurant choices all over this city--places where they value their customers. Better food and most definitely better service. Wow. As I said, I have NEVER been treated so poorly. People go out to dinner to have a pleasant experience. Not to be treated like garbage. Oh, and then the waiter tried to overcharge us for our wine (can't help but think that was purposeful after his extremely rude treatment of us). Keep an eye on your check at this...

Absolutely great. The wood fired pizza was crispy on the bottom and had the perfect amount of substance to the dough. I often find this style of pizza can become too floppy when the dough is too thin, but this had the perfect balance of being delicate and thin, but still having a body that holds the structure. The daily special was shrimp ravioli, which was *divine*. Perfectly cooked, thin delicate wrappers, with a light yet flavorful butter thyme mixture. The flavors are so delightful, and you can tell the pasta is really high quality. The bolognese was also amazing - the meat sauce was very rich and the pasta is made fresh. Service was extremely kinda and welcoming. Not too busy for a weekend, and the server was extremely helpful in understanding the menu. A limited amount of outdoor seating and a large window perfect for summer evenings. There’s a nice wine selection that I hope to try when I visit again.

I had a great experience at Via Vai! The ambiance is cozy and inviting, and the service was attentive throughout my meal. The salmon tartare was a highlight of the meal, with fresh and delicious flavors that left me wanting more. The pappardelle with lamb and asparagus was also quite tasty, with a nice balance of flavors and textures. While I found the pizza to be average (it wasn't quite neapolitan style, which is my personal preference, but roman style), I still enjoyed it. The biggest disappointment for me was the pistachio gelato - I found it too sweet and couldn't taste as much pistachio flavor as I had hoped. The restaurant has a good selection of wines to pair with your meal. Overall, I would definitely recommend giving Via Vai a try and enjoying their flavorful dishes!
