It was good UNTIL THE END. I had a reservation. The experience started off great. I was fond of the cozy set up and warm lighting. Our drinks were pretty good and the service although a bit delayed was accommodating and polite. We both got Ribeye steaks with garlic mashed potatoes and some sautéed sides. I even purchased an additional meal (the basil chicken breast) to go, to bring with me to the office the next day. Our bill was in excess of $200. At the end of dinner we paid in cash, leaving excess for tip, and proceeded to leave.
RIDICULOUSLY i was stopped at the door and confronted by the server about the tip amount. Now, i work in the legal field, the receipt says “suggested gratuity” … I rarely ever even look at those break downs anyway. I tip based on the amount of servers i had and the overall service.
Whyyy on earth is my server flagging me down at the door to let me know there is a minimum tip amount and I didn’t meet the minimum stated on the receipt???? EXCUSE ME?? Your receipt SUGGESTS a tip breakdown nowhere on the receipt does it say there is a mandatory minimum. However we had no problem giving more especially if i knew it had to be shared or whatever but why didn’t you let us know this at our table? It was very embarrassing for you to stop of at the door brandishing the receipt creating the impression that we did not pay enough for our bill or something. Then after all that, when i am mortified in a restaurant filled with customers and taking some more cash from my bag, the server proceeded to say “its okay”
Of course it is NOT ok! If it was okay you would not have stopped us upon leaving, and even then how can it be okay after you do such a thing to FIRST time customers?
I will NOT be returning. And its a shame because the food was not bad.
Ps. I have read the responses the owner writes under reviews, save yourself the trouble writing me a nasty reply, it only reflects worse on your establishment. Public relations is...
Read moreI took my family to westside steakhouse to celebrate the end of a great week of NYC tourism.. The Service. Made a 8:00pm reservation for 3. We were seated immediately, but we had to move to give up our table for a large party. The decor and lighting were nice and the setting was business casual. There was a white piece of construction paper over the table cloth (Which I wasn't to happy about because, why not just have the table cloth to keep the fine dining appeal?. Maybe I'm asking for to much). It was our first time there and they noticed in a negative way. Our waiter was sort of "snoody polite" (Deep breaths and slight eye rolls when called over, but very nice when he got to the table). The bar back kept bringing around lukewarm water and there's just a mild neglect given to non regulars. I read av review about how personable and funny the owner is, but I guess it's one of those things that you have to catch on a good day because all he did was make drinks and whisper back and forth to the wait staff. The Food. My girlfriend and her mother had French Onion soup which they seemed to enjoy. I had a Cesar salad which was under dressed and had no Parmesan cheese, but it did have nice salty anchovies which were nice. Our sides were average except for the Mac and Cheese. It was tasteless and under salted. They have good brand of Rosé and the Sam Adams was nice and chilled.. THE STEAK WAS PHENOMENAL!!. We all had 20oz T bones and all that was left over was the bone. They don't fuss at you about how you like your steak cooked which is a plus, but medium is what I had and it was spot on. Overall. Our experience was okay. It's a great date night place. Our bill was a little over $210 and was worth it. If you're a tourist, my suggestion Is that you pay a bit (And I mean just a bit) more. And go to Keens or Strip Speakeasy for the full NYC...
Read moreI loved it! Late afternoon to beat the theatre crowd birthday lunch. Perfect timing; only one other table had diners; in any other restaurant in New York City, this would be an opportunity for the waitstaff to slack off - not here!
Marta was a fantastic waitress, and Sayeed(Sp?) was a great back waiter. He was prompt but not pull your plate out from underneath you when you're not even finished prompt (something I hate). It's not super fancy in there, with a casual and relaxed vibe, which was nice because it's not loud, stuffy suits trying to impress clients or get arm candy. They alsoo have some cool photos of the old New York City of Columbus Circle. You should check them out, but the restaurant's star is the food, without a doubt. I loved the New York strip steak. We started with the bacon as an appetizer. Trust me, get it. My friend doesn't really like pork (huh?), but he enjoyed it very much too. We both ordered the NY Strip, which I highly recommend. It was perfectly cooked. For sides, I could not decide. He chose the veggies (asparagus), so I got to choose the carbs, but they all looked so good. I asked Marta, and when I asked about the mac and cheese, an instant smile came to her face, and she nodded, and that was that! Delicious. I put birthday in the notes section for a special occasion when they brought out the desserts; the apple pie that my friend ordered had a birthday candle in it. I ordered the cheesecake and stole some of his apple pie. Both of them were delicious. All I can say is undoubtedly it's worth a visit. The service is outstanding. The vibe is relaxed and cool, and the food is delicious. What more do you need to know? Thank you, Marta and Sayeed your excellent, gracious, welcoming friendly treatment to us as a guest and outstanding service. Hope to...
