I called to complain of the surprise increase in price. The conversation with the front desk was - me asking for the manager because I was not happy with the email that was sent. Literally that was the end of the conversation. In any event, the manager told me that I could not speak to his staff that way (not sure what I said to his staff that was rude besides having an annoyed tone because I was being billed more than my original hotel quote). He also said that if I could not treat his staff with respect that I should stay at another hotel because they would prefer that. He then addressed my issues and we hung up. Upon consideration that a manager told me that I should not stay at his motel (and I have booked there in the past) was such a turn off that I called again to take him up on his offer that I should not stay at his motel. I told him that our conversation left a bad taste in my mouth- he immediately responded that it was the same on his side. He then proceeding to tell me that he never said what he said about me going to another hotel and that I could not cancel my reservation. He then continuously said that he just wanted me to treat his staff with respect. When he was done speaking, I asked him what was so offensive of what I said to his staff that I needed to be told to treat them with respect. He declined to comment under the guise of being professional. (I admit that I definitely was not nice to this manager when speaking to him - his name is Mathew.). I think I will take the recommendation of this manager and stay at a different hotel moving forward. Yotel is across the street (much taller because Cachet hotel has only two stories and you are either on ground level (half of which is a night club) or the second floor) and is similar in price (without additional fees) and has the same star rating PLUS you don't see the numerous reviews complaining of noise from a night club attached to the hotel called the Playboy Club - music ends at 2am.
Further, if you wanted to stay in the same area and in a very new hotel - Four Points by Sheraton is a five minute walk from Cachet. It recently opened in early 2018 and is closer to the 7 train and is located a mere 5 minute walk from the Highline. The price point is the same and the star rating is also the same plus everything in that hotel is new.
Update - I had an argument on 11/7 regarding my 11/13 reservation. I sent emails of my complaints to the hotel, complaints via 311 (consumer complaint bureau) for the misuse of my credit card, complaints to their CEO, and complaints to BBB. The motel responded on 11/13 indicating that my reservation was through a third party (not really because I booked through their website that stated their cancellation policy) but that they'd refund half of cost of the hotel. Interestingly, they did not email my personal email - which I gave them for the reservation and it is the ONLY email I gave them. They looked me up online or did something to find my work email and sent their response to my work email. In any event, they refunded half of the cost of this motel I booked a few months ago through Priceline and my American Express is not paying them for my November booking for 319. Priceline's express deals typically leave you at Cachet and you'll pay 2/3 of the price of the hotel if you...
Read moreTL/DR - I'm convinced that this hotel is the result of an Interior Designer's attempt to be an Architect. It is designed to look great in photos, but is an abject failure as an environment for human beings to reside comfortably. We won't be back.
Pros: The staff were friendly, helpful and efficient The lock on the door worked
Cons: There are mortuaries with more soul than this place. Within an hour of arriving I and my friends were missing the leaky old hotel in Soho that we were staying in previously (Soho54 we will be back!). The main corridor is like something from a fairground crazy house - tilted black walls flank a winding corridor adorned with some frankly creepy and disturbing paintings, many of which seemed to be of Marilyn Manson. I was so glad when I found an alternate route to my room that meant I never had to use this corridor again. Seriously, I would stare at the uneven floor as I walked along in the hope of avoiding nightmares! I felt sorry for the Reception staff who had to sit in it all day without so much as a radio. No list of available room facilities or services We eventually discovered that you had to ask at reception for a "Do not disturb" sign, kettle, ice, ironing board, bathrobes, etc. The USB chargers were built into the clock radio. Again, there was nothing to inform us of this. The TV was stuck on one channel and the screen would sometimes randomly go completely white The "Rain Shower" in the bathroom was very dissappointing - not much water pressure and the only control was temperature. My cheap shower at home is way better Nothing other than coffee/tea available (from one machine in the lobby that required constant emptying). No bar, no food, no vending machines. No wardrobe in the room, just a clothes rail with ill-fitting hangers that ran above a chest of drawers (meaning you couldn't hang a long dress on it) Very little layout space in the room, not helped by the room's A/C grille slot taking up a third of it. Nowhere to put trash except the tiny (unlined) trash bin in the bathroom Our original room had a big ugly portable A/C that was connected with a long 6" white flexible tube to the room's window (which faced inwards - no window to the outside) Because of this it was impossible to close the room blinds so anyone walking past could see straight into the room. The room still contained it's original (concealed) A/C unit. What does it say about a hotel's management when they do this instead of fixing the original equipment? Original room also had an awful hollow metal bed base that was almost impossible not to kick when you sat down. Sexy pictures of people smoking in a room where you had to step outside the hotel to smoke unless you wanted a $250 surcharge. Someone's idea of a joke, maybe? Corridor carpets were soaked due to being permanently open to the central "garden" area (it was raining a lot, but the torrential rain and flooding hadn't happened yet) Terrible view of the busy Lincoln Tunnel traffic from the window that we were lucky to get once we complained about the original room. It was still an...
Read moreI must say that in general, my impressions of the hotel were positive.
We arrived at the hotel after 11 pm, and we were greeted very warmly, they told us everything, offered discounts for restaurants and more. Everything was great. Of course, I forgot about the hotel fee, which wasn’t included in my payment via Expedia, but I already used it in Manhattan.
When we entered the room, we were shocked by how beautiful the room was. If you do not peer into the details (I will return to this later), then, in general, the room is very unusual and differs from most hotels in NY. Everything is stylish, beautiful furniture (at first glance), a fantastic bathroom, a bathrobe in the closet (unfortunately, only one), FIJI water. Everything looks great. We were super tired and just fell asleep.
In the morning, waking up and hungry, we headed for breakfast. And here the fun begins. Entering the room, we were shocked by a very modest choice. Unfortunately, I forgot to take photos, because it didn’t fit in my head that such breakfasts exist at all. There were about 5-6 types of pastries, bagels, and bread with butter and cream cheese, boiled eggs, fresh fruits, small jars of yogurt, breakfast cereal, milk, juice, coffee, tea. And that's it. No scrambled eggs, no sausages, no hot porridge, NOTHING that will enable your body to function in the morning.
To say that we were disappointed is to say nothing.
Then I decided to check the reservation and did not find any information about my breakfast, except that it was included. Then we checked booking.com, and it said that the price includes breakfast equal to $ 30.00 per person from the menu in the restaurant on the ground floor.
But we did not even have breakfast in the restaurant, but in a small room with 8-10 tables.
Our wonderful impression disappeared somewhere. Back at the hotel, we spent the evening at Treadwell Park West Restaurant. HERE IT WAS UNFORGETTABLE !! But for the restaurant, I will leave a separate review.
As I wrote above, we did not immediately pay attention to the details in the room, but then I saw a chip on the dresser. And later on the other. And then I saw that all the furniture in the room was old and damaged. The room itself looks very fresh and stylish, I do not deny this, but I advise the management to take care of their furniture because it spoils the idea of the hotel very much.
In general, I have a double impression - I liked the style and comfort of the room, but for me, breakfast is the most important meal, and this breakfast is not breakfast at all.
Most likely, I will prefer a hotel where I will be sure of the quality of service, as, in NY, I spend most of my time...
