Tuesday , September 27,2016 at approximately 2:10pm, I entered the Meme Mediterranean restaurant, Hell's Kitchen location, sat at the bar and intended to order food for lunch. Two male, and one female server walked pass me several times, looked me directly in the face, quickly shifted their glances, and did not greet me, nor ask me if I wanted to purchase a drink, or if even I was interested in seeing a menu. Mean while, as I patiently waited to be served, I observed three woman, who appeared to be of European decent, walk into the establishment, immediately one of the servers greeted the women, and informed them that, they would be able to serve them shortly. After sitting at said bar for 10 or more minutes continuing to behave in a civil manner, I asked a gentleman, (who I later discovered is the establishments owner/ manager) who I did not notice earlier while waiting to be serviced, "is anyone working at the bar?" ,his response was, "yes" and he stated, "oh I thought you ordered already. Upon receiving my order, I respectfully asked for the check and did not touch a single item of food. Said manager expressed concern about my decision not to eat, and he encouraged me to rethink my choice and stay instead. My decision however was final, and said manager decided not to charge me for the service. Once our social exchange was complete I left the area without further incident. We are in the year 2016 and it is unfortunate some people still prescribe to the ignorance perpetuated in Americas past. I refuse to support prejudice and empty-headedness, which in my humble opinion was the behavior displayed by these misinformed...
Read moreHad a really lovely time here! We were looking for some Mediterranean food after visiting the High Line and found this restaurant. The outdoor ambiance is really cute and there are a decent number of tables, all well-spaced apart.
For drinks, we ordered the sangria and a regular margarita. Both were really good, the sangria was definitely not your typical sangria - it was so light, bubbly, and fruity - would recommend trying for sure.
For food, we got the pita and hummus appetizer. Among other apps, this is a good portion size, so it’s easy to share if you are with a group and wanted to split a bunch of appetizers. The pita was fluffy and the hummus was creamy but still had a nice texture. We ordered the chicken skewers for our meals, which are served with some veggies, pita, hummus, and rice. The chicken was cooked well and was really juicy and flavorful. The cucumber yogurt dip tasted delicious with the chicken and was very fresh.
Additionally, our server, Brandon was excellent. Super friendly, funny, and made our experience at Meme stand out from other outdoor dining experiences. Thank you!
Would absolutely recommend coming here if you’re in the area and looking for...
Read moreI used to love coming to this place, the food was always great, came tonight for dinner with the wife and I’m surprised at how much the food quality has deteriorated...ordered the octopus for a starter, it tasted and smelt very raw for a char grilled octopus, next I was recommended the shawarma platter for the entree, it came tasting like someone dropped a can of straight curry sauce on the meat & chicken, there was no other flavor in the protein but curry, after one bite I asked the waiter to take it back ( which he was very kind to do so straight away) ordered the chicken kebab instead as I imagined it would be a safe easy option, it came out and it was honestly barely worth finishing, the chicken was on the verge of dry and if it wasn’t for working an entire day and being hungry I wouldn’t have even finished it.
I’m honestly so disappointed in how much the food quality has dropped at this place and for a place with its prices: two plates and a virgin mojito costing 70$ you’d imagine it would be at least decent. I only gave it one star because the waiter was nice and concerned with how unhappy I was with the food.
Bottom line, If you want to eat nice food,...
