As a black Cuban American, I never experienced worse treatment. I’m not the type of person that writes reviews; however, I have to write this one to say the God honest true. My wife Amber wrote a review on The Bourbon House in Newport, KY, and the owner replied lying and denying the fact that she, the owner, herself when she saw us being an interracial couple, her treatment toward me and my wife was indeed very condescending and inappropriate. If an investigator was to go there and go through the cameras, beyond reasonable doubt he/she will see the plethora of indifference and unprofessionalism in the manner in which we were treated. Yes, my wife was very upset but, it was because as my wife it hurts her, and makes her angry when her husband is being discriminated. It is a fact that these people are racist, and they were seating other people (white people) that came after us in nice tables; then, after we complained for the treatment, the owner tried to seat us at the end of a long table where a family of four was already sitting. Indeed, I was the only black man in that place, and I guess, to make it worse, with my wife that is white. I thought that at this point and time that we are living, the bold actions of racism was water under a bridge but at this place ( Bourbon House in Newport) is not a secret how they feel about black people, especially the ones that love and marry a white woman! It was a very sad and totally unfair experience which I don’t which on nobody whether the person is black or white! This place really needs the attention of people that will expose their mess by a thorough and impartial investigation! Nevertheless, I’m quite sure that God will deal with individually, and the truth will always preñad...

The decor is nice and roomy, the music was not played obscenely loud (a real vice of many local establishments), so you could hear yourself think. Thus is good. Very spacious and good for large parties, family outings, etc.
Minuses: it's basically glorified Midwest bar food. At slightly upscale casual dining restaurant prices.
This place does have more of a local feel, but the food just isn't great. Its not bad tough, it's ok. Fried Cheese sticks, and other appetizers are ok, they have tasty fresh pretzels BUT they dump an obscene amount of salt on top, so you can't even taste the pretzels anymore. I've had fresh pretzels on three continents while traveling, and honestly they kill otherwise tasty pretzels simply by dumping a ton of salt on them. The result ends up being ball park and dive bar pretzels. When theirs could be so much better.
Not bad deep dish pizza, their deep dish pizza had merits. But the thin crust pizza is honestly nothing special. Also their deep dish pizza, which is a strength of this place, is extremely over-priced. And doesn't come in individual size, you have to get a full size pie for the deep dish.
Basically, this place has a lot of potential, but presently is only a bit better than glorified bar food. If you're drunk it's amazing, like a drunk one night stand. If you're sober without beer goggles then you really wonder what the fuss is about. Especially when you see the check.
Not being harsh, just being direct. This place has a LOT of potential, but for the price and location some of the rough edges need to...
Read moreEach month a group of us from my graduating class goes to lunch at a different restaurant. This month we went to bourbon pizza at Newport on the levee. The owner, Mary, served us. We had a group of 18 people and service was terrific. The pizza was the best that my husband and I had ever had. We each had an individual small thin crust pizza but the deep dish is also available. The right amount of seasoning, even the crust has sprinkled Parmesan chree on it. Pepperoni mushrooms, onions were my choose for toppings. Everyone raved about their pizza. One man had the chef salad, which was a very nice presentation of cheeses and meats along with fresh crunchy greens. Everyone who worked there was very friendly and stopped by the table several times to make sure that we didn’t need anything. The only drawback is parking. There is parking in a small lot next to the restaurant which is five dollars for 3 to 4 hours. The other restaurant is in Oakbrook in Florence, and it is owned by the daughter of the owner of the Newport restaurant I believe they are in a strip ball so you would have plenty of parking free parking. We definitely will take a trip to Oakbrook. We have told many of our friends about it , they not only have pizza, but they have hoagies other sandwiches and there is a bar for your choice of beverage but their iced tea is delicious. I urge you to try bourbon pizza either the Newport or the Oakbrook restaurant you will...
