The Little Spoon Bakery & Cafe — Restaurant in Newport

The shop itself is very cute and clean inside so I gave it a couple of stars for presentation. I did not try the pastries but they looked good. I also like how it supports local artists. I thought the staff could be a little more friendly though. I ordered a caramel macchiato 16oz and read the menu wrong in which the barista rudely let me know. However, even though the choices of the type of coffee were easy to read the sizes are itty bitty. Sooo hard to read if you’re standing in a line away from the cash register. She said “you really need to look at the menu more closely please, we don’t carry that in a 16oz. You can order that in a latte. The next time you’re at Starbucks you need to just order a latte, you don’t even get what you’re really ordering at Starbucks when you order a caramel macchiato, so next time just order a latte.” I said oh okay, sort of taken back by that answer because how did she know I even go to Starbucks. Why did she mention Starbucks? After that I asked her to make it sweet. She told me she put extra pumps in it but honestly it tasted like cough medicine. I feel really bad writing this because I know it’s a small business trying to make it in a competitive world but the experience was so incredibly unpleasant and a bit rude. The coffee was a bit pricey for it to taste like cough syrup. Looking at this, maybe next time the barista should not try to purposely humiliate...

I was visiting the Newport aquarium and as I was leaving seen this little bakery so decided to go inside and boy was I so happy I did. I can’t remember the guy who was working but he was the kindest man. It was mid afternoon so not many donuts left so I actually left but decided to go back in and get the last custard filled donut they had and let me tell everyone this was the best donut I have had in so so long 😋 This donut had amazing icing on the top, the custard inside was nice and full and it definitely did not disappoint. It was a little more pricey than what I would like to spend on a donut but I definitely would do it again 😂 With the incredible service and the taste of this one donut I definitely will be back and I’m going to go in earlier so I can get more than one. Stopped in here because it was freezing outside. The girls inside were extremely apathetic, no "welcome" or "hello" or recommendations of food. Ordered the s'mores cookie and cookies and cream cupcake. S'mores cookie is dry and overly salty. I asked the barista for a cup of water for my toddler who was fussing and she informed me that they charge $.25 for the cup of water. I was shocked. It's tap water. I told her I don't have change, so don't worry about it. No apology. No offer to pay the whole $.25 it put them out. Just rude. When they charge $4 for a stale cookie I'm sure they can afford to cover the .25 tap water but they choose not to...Tried the cookies and cream cupcake and all the frosting fell off when I bit it--proving what I feared, they're not fresh.
