Happened across this place when I Googled local coffee shops near me. A British cafe right here in RI? I was intrigued, and I'm glad I decided to check it out. Walking in, the service area is wide open with various groceries and snacks from England on display and for sale. Chips, cookies, candy, and canned goods were some of the things I noticed. To the left is a dining area with plenty of room. The place is clean and decorated with items from or about England. Pretty cool. Service was great, even moreso due to the British accents. A British accent brings about an extra level of friendliness imo. Very friendly and professional, and good for conversation. Dave and Kellie own the place, and it's clear that they care about their patrons. The food is a mix of your typical cafe fare with the one exception that half the menu is American food and the other half is British food. Obviously the British side wasn't so typical. I ordered the Ploughman, which consisted of a thick slab of cheddar cheese with ham, lettuce, red onion, mustard, and Branston pickles (that part got me curious) on crusty Parisian bread. I ordered that and a medium iced coffee, a "good and proper lunch" as Kellie put it. I don't recall the price, but I do recall thinking "That's it?". Anyway, to say the sandwich was incredible would be an understatement. Sure you could write it off as ham and cheese, but it's so much more than that. Maybe it was the Branston pickles mixed with everything else, I'm not sure. You just need to try it yourself. The sandwich was prepared by Dave and he checked in to see how I liked it. After voicing my delight, he informed me that the main ingredients are imported from England. So it's not even a British ham and cheese made with American ham and cheese. It's a British h and cheese made with British ham and cheese (and other ingredients). The overall experience was great. Glad I checked it out. Now I need to find some reasons to get over to the island again so I can get back there and try the rest...
Read moreLet me start this review off with the fact that I’ve been craving a full English breakfast for a couple months now.
I scoured the internet for one, searching in New England, then searching Connecticut, and then in Rhode Island. Lo and behold Kellie’s Cafe popped up. I messaged them on Facebook to ensure the hours, and soon after they messaged me back! BINGO!
We drove an hour, and despite the construction making it look possibly closed it was absolutely not. When you park, you get greeted by a floating head of the Queen which delighted our child. When entering you’re greeted not only by the owners, but a wide array of classic chocolates and treats, which are just waiting for you when you go to pay.
The food, I don’t know if I’ve had anything as good this side of “the pond.” My wife had scone, which was fresh from the oven and nothing short of perfection with the clotted cream and jam. My daughter had the beans on toast, with the beans on the side, a request that they had no issue doing. My MIL got an egg and cheese on rye, and she was delighted.
As for me, and my quest for the full English breakfast, I couldn’t have been more happy. I got it with the black pudding, and my gosh did it hit the spot. This place, it’s the real deal, and if there is anywhere in Newport you should stop for some tea and a bite to eat, Kellies has to be the first place you go!...
Read moreChef David’s cowboys are second to none. Every detail is considered from the home made bidget to the British ham slice, and the sausages to die for. Did I say he cooks your eggs to your own specification. Kellie’s home made scones are heavenly served w/British cream and jam. Yum 😋 we will go back to Newport just to have tea time and eat the delicious food. Well worth the hour and a half drive from western MA. We were in Newport for our yearly tine share visit, and our son celebrated his birthday and wanted British cuisine, needless to say we went back the next day not only to eat, but to order to go food to bring home. Kellie and David made us feel so at home and like we were royalty. When we went back the next day before going home Kellie had a surprise birthday note in our box wishing our son a very special birthday. Such thoughtfulness in every aspect of the cafe from the food, the decor to the service. Very special place, very special folks. Thank you for the introduction to...
