Very disappointing experience at Port Wine last night. I had been a regular customer, but between being overcharged for a bottle of wine ($29 instead of $17) and incredibly rude and insulting treatment by the owner's sister, when I went in for what I thought would be a simple price adjustment this morning, I will never shop here again. The wine I purchased had a shelf sticker with the type of wine and price clearly listed. However, as I didn't get a receipt I only noticed in the morning that I was overcharged. The wine tends to be pricey at this shop, if you know your prices, as I do. The wine I purchased is not a $29 bottle of wine and I would never have purchased it at that price if the shelf label indicated $29. If you shop here...be sure of your prices, and be careful at the register. If you are overcharged, "tough luck" is their response. I emailed the owner: no response. Prior to the experience I had shopped here regularly. Never again. SEE RESPONSE FROM OWNER BELOW!!!!!!! Ignores the fact that BOTH Mondavi Fume Blac wines, including the Oakville, were displayed with the shelf price of $17.99, and ignores the rude treatment by staff, especially his sister. As I wrote, I was overcharged based on the price of $17.99 they put in front of the "Oakville Mondavi Fume Blanc.
IF you shop here, watch the cashier and make sure you are charged the price that is listed. Otherwise, don’t expect customer service. I don’t FEEL I was overcharged, I WAS overcharged. Further Vivino lists this wine at $19.99. I highly recommend using the Vivino app because the shop not only has the bait and switch prices, but they hugely mark up their prices if you don’t know your prices. As I wrote I never would’ve bought this bottle of wine for $29.99 had it been properly marked at $29.99 … an additional $10 over retail price markup. The wine is simply not that good. Notice the owner did not address anything about this. Instead he stands by his store's policy or mistake to mislabel wines and then blame it on the customer! Yes I purchased that wine, which was listed at $17.99 in YOUR STORE!...
Read moreVery disappointed, it was our first Summer in Newport, and after our initial in store purchases the lady that works here told us to make an online account so that we can accumulate reward points. Now at the end of the Summer after spending thousands on liquor for our yacht we came in to check our rewards and now we get told a different story?? Now we were supposed to do the purchases through their app?? Please get all your employees on the same page. We will definitely re think our liquor purchases...
Read moreLiterally your "neighborhood" beer and liquor shop, new ownership has really polished the old Rocco's into a whole new experience. Can't speak for the wine selection, but almost always in stock with great local and customary beer, hard seltzer, Prosecco and champagne selections, friendly staff. Just be careful on that street corner, especially if trying to make a left out...
