Went with a friend. Here's his review.

I just posted this on Yelp . Be warned!

The "Yummy (?) Bowl", Newport, Oregon

My adult daughter and I just made the horrible mistake of choosing to dine at this so-called restaurant.

I ordered the orange chicken dinner special, which came with "Crab Rangoon", fried rice, butterflied shrimp, and hot and sour soup.

Two bites of the soup told me that it was neither hot nor sour, it was slightly sweet, with no trace of heat, and mediocre flavor. I added salt, LOTS of pepper, and some soy sauce and managed to get it down.

The main platter was served, and The "Crab Rangoon" pastry shell was like leather; chewy and unpalatable. The filling was average, at best.

The star of the show - the Orange Chicken - had a sauce that had never seen an orange. In fact, it looked and tasted very much like Sweet Baby Ray's Barbeque sauce. The chicken was very dry and unpalatable, without flavor.

The rice was a disaster all by itself. Bland as bland could be, I added salt and soy sauce, but all I could taste was salt and soy sauce.

Inedible.

The butterflied shrimp had a nice-tasting crust, but the shrimp was tasteless as well. I left two uneaten.

My daughter had a similar experience with her food.

After each of us had eaten sparingly of what had been served to us, we looked at each other and agreed that the food was some of the WORST "Chinese" food we had ever eaten,

We called the very young 'waiter' to our table and calmly and quietly explained the situation to him. His face remained blank, and he retreated into the kitchen, returning a moment later with our tab, reflecting a whopping 10% discount off of our $40 bill.

I told him that that was an unacceptable response and asked to speak to the owner or manager.

A couple of minutes passed, and I looked up to see an obviously angry, grim-faced woman walking purposefully toward our table. She stopped and asked what the problem was. I again went down the very long list of problems, and as I did so, she became even angrier and defensive, with an escalating volume and stridency to her voice.

"Our Hot and Sour soup is world-famous" she proclaimed. People come back over and over for it.

Grabbing my mostly-untouched plate, she cut a piece of the dry chicken and waggled the fork in my face - "This chicken is NOT dry" she bellowed. I tried to get a word in edgewise, but she was on a roll. By now, other patrons were looking at the scene.

I told her I had eaten at MANY Chinese restaurants (I'm 79 years old) and so had my daughter, but this was the worst excuse for Chinese food that either of us had experienced, and that a 10% discount on uneaten food would not suffice. She then, very snottily, said. "You no want to pay, then don't pay", and walked away.

So did we - we had completely lost our appetites by then - and the "Yummy Bowl" in Newport Oregon, need not be concerned about a return trip from us. There will be none, but we will spread the word of our experience.

I can think of several adjectives that are more fitting in the name than the...

I'm not sure what is worse, the food or the owner... First off, I am a local, not a tourist. I do not mind paying a high dollar amount for GOOD quality food. Unfortunately, this was not the case here. This place leans towards quanity over quality... We placed a to-go order for spring rolls and two orders of teriyaki chicken. The total was $45! Whaaaaaat?! The food was done and when we looked at the chicken alone, it almost made me throw up. They definitely do not use white meat for their teriyaki. The meat looked so fatty, we couldn't do it. Then, we looked at the spring rolls. They are seriously charging $7.95 for two baby sized spring rolls! I go in to get my refund and the rest of the experience was a nightmare. The owner kept arguing for much longer than she should have. I said nothing to this lady except, I would like my refund. I said it over and over and over again. She was having a full on conversation with herself, saying she's been in business for 20 years and nobody ever complains. Hahaha. Okay lady, keep telling yourself that. Then, she continues on telling me the food is good, and I should not come back. Okay, fantastic. Again- I need my refund. She still goes on.. she's now looking through all the food and says you didn't even eat anything. Well yeah lady, that's kind of the point as to why I want my refund. I had to tell her 4 more times I want my refund before she finally processed it. Looking at my voided receipt, I see that they added a $5.45 tip for themselves. What a joke! Here is a REAL tip for you.. As a local business owner myself, not every single customer is going to like your food/product. Leave them with a good impression when they tell you they're unhappy, so they will be willing to come back and give you another shot.

Sincerely, An oregon coast business owner with ALL 5 star...

I came to this establishment for lunch today with a friend. I have NEVER been here and wanted to try their food. My friend ordered the Sweet and Sour Chicken. I ordered the Chow Fun with Chicken and No vegetables. The waitress brought out our food, and my didn't look like what I was expecting, but I tried it anyway. I did not like the taste or texture. I pushed it to the side. The waitress asked me what was wrong. I told her that I did not like it. She asked why, I told her I just didn't. She took it away, as she took it away my friend saw her take a bite of my food she took away. She came back out and told me everyone in back tasted it, and it tasted good to them. She then asked me what could be changed for the next time, I told her idk, and I felt on the spot." She then asked if I was going to order something else I said I didn't know. When she came back she told me if I didn't like what I ordered then maybe I shouldn't order any more food. I HAVE NEVER BEEN TREATED LIKE THIS!!! You do not tell a customer, "If you don't like our food, then maybe you should order anything else." I WILL NEVER RETURN TO THIS...

We called to have food delivered. It was a Saturday night around 7:00 We fully expected they would be busy, so it was a surprise when the guy that took our order quoted thirty to forty minutes. It was almost exactly a half an hour when the driver showed. Our order was hot and the containers big. Sweet and Sour Pork, Egg Foo Young (best sauce / gravy ever!)) and Beef and Broccoli were all as good as any I've had. They came with two big containers of rice, plus the usual packs of soy sauce and fortune cookies. The next time we order I'll ask for some vegetables in the Sweet and Sour Pork (carrot, bell pepper, onion) and extra broccoli in the Beef and Broccoli. I'd also order less; the Egg Foo Young was enough to feed three. Yummy Bowl is the best of the three Chinese places in Newport, IMO.

Wow! I usually walk out of most Chinese restaurants regretting it. Either because the food was awful, not enough, or the service was poor. Or a combination of them. My family and I were pleasantly surprised! The portions were massive. The orange chicken pieces were about double the size we are used to seeing. And good chicken breast as well. We also got a honey glazed chicken that was tasty (not as much so as the orange chicken, but still Yummy, just like the name of the place….see what I did there?). The noodles and fried rice were decent enough, and the service was both friendly and excellent. Overall, my family and I were hangry, and this hit the spot. Glad we stopped by on a whim!

First time experiencing Yummy Bowl in Newport. I ordered food for pickup & my phone experience was exceptionally pleasant. When I arrived, the parking lot was easy to maneuver & very clean. Inside the restaurant I was greeted promptly & kindly. The atmosphere was spotless & very zen. When I got home & opened my container, the honey chicken looked a bit different than I’d experienced other places. I gave it a try. It was creamier & less honey sweet than I expected; it was not icky but it wasn’t great. I’ll be trying another dish in the future. The chicken inside was hot, tender, crispy outside & fantastic. So, overall 4 stars & I’ll be back to try something different and reassess.
