Barge Inn Tavern — Restaurant in Newport

Im only not giving 5 stars on service and atmosphere because im basing it on multiple visits and not necessarily my preference when talking atmosphere. The food is good and reasonably priced for what it is. On a normal day, the service is great and very friendly and personable. I traditionally sit at the bar so Victor and Tiffany are ususally who take care of me, there are some new faces still learning the ropes and im sure they will be great. When sitting at a table waiting for service, sometimes its good and sometimes its slow...thus the 4 stars Instead of 5...I just dont wanna get peeps hopes too high so they feel disappointed😉. Me...not generally in a hurry. The atmosphere is generally clean and busy, a dive bar wannabe without actually being one? Some days the bar or tables could use a wipe, but I dont want to presume I know how busy they were b4 I showed up...but dirty when I sat, so 4 stars instead of 5 again. But customer service is always friendly and personable and good and drinks great so u wont be disappointed. I highly recommend the meatball sandwich or the reuben!! Also open late which is the best part about this place in a town that likes to shut down by 9 or 10....

Took my realtor and her mother out to a late lunch on Saturday, August 24th. Despite it being late in the afternoon. They were busy! Despite the crowd, service was quick from the friendly waitress... The food was great and at very resonable prices. I had the barge burger ($9) with bacon added ($2) with a very generous serving (IE A LOT!!) of onion rings for my side. I HIGHLY recommend!! One of my dining companions, had the chicken wrap. While the waitress mentioned they were known for their hamburgers. My lunch companion, commented the wrap was stuffed full and was delicious!!

One of only two negatives; One of the soft drinks served had something "orange" floating in it.

While not the fault of the restaurant. Parking can be VERY DIFFICULT. There is a small off street parking lot for just this restaurant. It's "tight" and not great for large trucks or vans. Parking on the street is difficult at best. Don't even think about coming in a motorhome or a vehicle towing a trailer.

Bottom line? I...

Went for "amazing burger" for my daughter and I to take home. (no miners in the tavern) left with nothing. The bar tender looked at me like I was wasting her time and had not desire to assist in taking my order leaving me sitting there as she helped the only 3 other people at the bar. I placed my order and asking a few questions about the sides like does it have fries. She replies "no"... Ok, does it have any sides? After taking my order with a bad attitude she went back to talking to the couple and not cashing me out or even give the cook my order. After waiting for her to give me a time frame or total actually just some type of interaction she turns to me and says. You know this is cash only right. WOW. I said maybe I will just try your burger another day and left. I will go out of my way and make sure nobody I know will be treated with the disrespect and attitude you have given me.
