Bay Haven Inn — Restaurant in Newport

My.personal experience with this bar is very limited. Normally a bar with this much history one would expect a certain smell as you walk in but be prepared as no strong odor of beer is present. Owner is very particular about organizing what space she has to get maximum benefit for her customers. Areas I was in were very clean. Reason for my visit was a celebration of life for one of their workers and dear friend of the owner. This person that the celebration was for also lived in the same building as I do and he could be classified as a "great guy." When people were talking to others about my neighbor I heard the above phrase uttered quite frequently. I will miss this person's big smile and his laughter. Is not a place for children as it is a bar but adults can play pool, video machines and a few nights a week they have karaoke and I am told the place is packed and my friend usually helped at the door making sure covid protocol is followed. No food is made on the premise but menu from across the street(The fish peddler)is available and orders can be called in. The bar is a long time haunt for the fishermen along the bay front and decor pays homage to its past and present. I have heard and seen this bar very busy as when I happen to go down that way by the waterfront. It reminds me of New Orleans as people walk our bay front and get a chance to see where crab and fish come in to be processed and restaurants are known for serving of the freshest crab they have ever had. The bartender was horrible. She tried to give me someone else drink because i ordered the same thing when they didn't want it. They ordered a ginger whiskey but she didn't put whiskey in it. GROSS! She was so rude when my husband and I walked in, you could tell she was in a disgusting mood when we just said hi. She then kicked people out when they asked what drink she made when she herself suggested 3 to them. She was disgusting and ready to start trouble pretending to be the victim. The women she "kicked out" husband stood up so they can leave saying lets go no point in trying when you're not welcomed. Then the women yelled out in front of the whole bar GET OUT. They were already leaving but the bartender was waiting to kick them out as soon as they walked in. So we left too.

Please get some people who are not racist to work there. We were the only Mexican and black people and she immediately told us to leave and we all ordered 8 ready made drinks. Waste of money for the bar. Two couples walked out because of her attitude problem. Y'alls fault for having someone who has no personality work there.

Was a great place for many years to me, I visit the bay front once a year and this is my go to bar when I visit the bay front. Although recently for my yearly visit I brought a great friend with me that had never been in there. The bartender was pretty insincere with her condescending small talk. “I can, and did get over that.” My friend and I were there for an hour in the late afternoon, unfortunately she left her wallet in the bathroom for maybe 20 minutes and a significant amount of her cash was gone. There were only a few people in there. Point is…it wasn’t nighttime, It was a Monday, It was slow, and daylight. It wasn’t hard to figure out who it was, and I know it is my friends fault for leaving her wallet in the restroom. But 90 % of the people that hang out there are regulars, they are close with bartender and we are out of towners “hour and a half away”. Thank you for welcoming us with such class. Will never go back there, and I will stop suggesting it to family and friends that visit...
