If you’ve never been to Nina’s Waffles you’re in for a treat. When we first arrived at Nina’s Waffles I saw a lady go up to the window and order ice cream on a sugar cone. I was scratchin’ my head and thinking to myself, “who orders a sugar cone when you are at Nina’s Waffles… I mean the place has waffles in the name… It has to be good right?” — WRONG!
After waiting 7 mins to order a cashier came to the window. I ordered waffles with 2 scoops of chocolate ice cream, wet walnuts, hot fudge, whipped cream and cherries. I was quickly informed that there was no cherries, no wet walnuts, but they had regular walnuts. The cashier told us they had hot fudge but they ran out of whipped cream.
Here’s a tip: you are an ice cream shop. There are literally 4 ingredients you need - ice cream, whipped cream, hot fudge and a cherry on top.
Our order is up and one of the staff says, “waffles, chocolate ice cream and chocolate ganache!” Wait… what? Chocolate Ganache? I asked for hot fudge, you confirmed you had hot fudge and then you passed off hot, overpriced, imitation Hershey’s syrup for hot fudge. Maury would say, “that was a lie!”
Ok, so after seeing other people served I realized they forgot our second waffle. I let the staff member know and they quickly brought the second waffle. At this point, I wish I left good enough alone and let her forget the second waffle.
So I sit down to eat this waffle and like I said, I have pretty high expectations for a waffle and ice cream dessert from Nina’s Waffles.
Let’s start with the positives. The chocolate ice cream was good. That’s about it.
Now let me tell you about the negatives. Cliff Notes version - literally everything else. First, you are given a knife and a spork. A spork doesn’t let your grip the waffle and more than one patron asked for another spork because it broke. The hot fudge aka chocolate ganache was not fudgy, but it was absolutely hot because it burnt my throat all the day down to my stomach. I’d talk about the whipped cream and cherries but there were none. Ok, for the pièce de résistance - the waffle. What can I say other than the waffle was terrible. I’ve honestly had better Eggo Waffles. The waffle taste was not great, maybe malt, overpowering and the consistency was heavy. I couldn’t even finish it.
There was a line of people so we thought this has to be good. Boy were we wrong. My brother said he had visited Nina’s Waffles once about a year ago. Now I know why he never went back. If I ever get the bad taste our of my mouth and return to Nina’s Waffles I’ll take the tip from the old lady and go with just the ice cream...
Read moreI love Nina's Waffles and Ice Cream in Peddlers Village, so I figured I'd give this a try to order my husband's birthday cake. I placed the order 4 days in advance (they request at least 72 hours). Their online order system would not accept any of my cards (kept declining them), so I had to place the order over the phone. At first the girl was confused as to how to take a phone order, but called her manager who told her to take all the information and they would process it from the back end. I asked her to please confirm with me that the order will be processed so I'm not left without a cake on Saturday. She called me the next day and assured me it was confirmed and the charge showed up on my card. The cake was $50, but I love their ice cream so I figured it was worth it. When I had gone Saturday to pick up the cake at the ice cream stand, I was told it wasn't there. The girl called her manager and they said that " I can come back in 40 minutes and the cake will be there". I had company coming over and I had asked her to please refund me for the cake, I will pick up a Carvel cake, unless they can deliver it to my home. The Manager delivered it to my house and gave us a $15 gift card as an apology for the error. I do appreciate the effort to get us our cake, but how do you not have a small $50 cake ready at the store for pickup when the order was placed well in advance? What if I was on my way a the party 20 minutes away and the cake wasn't ready? Also, the ice cream was delicious, but the "cake" in the middle was more like a soft cracker, not cake. The brownie at the bottom was delicious but impossible to cut, so the cake was toppling over as we cut, it was a mess. Again, very good, but I won't be ordering a cake from there again. I also don't like how its all enclosed and you can't see inside or talk to the manager (everything is via text or phone, you feel "shut out" if there is a problem and the young girls there are unsure of what to do they have to text their managers and wait for a response by text). Again, delicious ice cream and they did the right thing in the end, but I'm not rushing back anytime soon. Also, last year when I was a class parent for a local elementary school, I bought a $25 gift card for a basket we were making for our annual fundraiser. I asked if they were willing to donate some cookies or a few brownies, etc to fluff out our basket and the owner declined. All of the other businesses we bought from happily donated swag, chocolate, coupons for free ices, etc. This was a turn off for...
Read moreThe best Cinder Blocks and Ice Cream in town. Used to be great, fresh waffles made to order in about 6-7 minutes, with giant scoops of ice cream. Just went for the first time in a while, and the waffle was inedible. Took 10 seconds to get the order, 2 very small scoops of ice cream on top of a cold, rock hard “waffle”. You could see through the service window the stack of old waffles that they were using. The plastic knife and spork that were provided couldn’t even get through this thing.
Ice creams are ok, seems like it used to be fresher, now has ice crystals peppered through it (which is not a mix-in we ordered). Most flavors are just vanilla with a few toppings thrown in; the flavor names are far more interesting than their corresponding taste. Staff was fine but took a while to get anyone’s attention, as they were all sitting on their phones. The best part was the conveniently located trash bins, which I recommend they use to store...
