Over the years, I've enjoyed farm-to-table dining experiences throughout Bucks County and beyond, and was excited to try Harvest. After two visits, I have found the exorbitant prices and quantity of food to be less than satisfactory.
During my first experience at Harvest, the waiter failed to remember two items I ordered at separate times alongside everyone else. After everyone in my party received their drinks, I waited several minutes before I inquired the status of mine. The waiter apologized and brought out my order. I completely understood these things happen and did not think anything of it. We then ordered our entrees. However, mine was neglected again. I quietly asked the waiter if my meal would be arriving soon, and he applogized and explained he would remove both charges from my bill (which resulted in zero charges).
The second time I returned, I was pleased to hear that one of the specials was a cheese platter featuring cheese from Washington Crossing and eagerly ordered one as an appetizer. Unfortunately, I was incredibly disappointed to find the outrageously small portions of cheese - embarrassingly so. The arrangement consisted of small blocks of cheese, assorted fruits, honey, jam, olive spread, and crostinis. For $18, the ratio of cheese to filler was disappointing. I then ordered a smoked salmon flatbread which was extremely salty in addition to the already salty smoked salmon. I ended up taking most of it home. Additionally, two members of my party ordered grain bowls ($16) and were asked if they would like to add tofu to it. They agreed and upon receiving their bills, noticed a $7 upcharge for the added tofu cubes, for a total of $23 per bowl. They were not made aware of such an upcharge when they were asked.
Overall, the ambience was lovely except for the high noise level. Our table resorted to raising our voices to be heard until we eventually decided to just speak to those seated directly next to us. Waitstaff were personable and cordial, and we enjoyed chatting with our waitress during the second visit. Although, service was slow during both experiences. Ultimately, the pricing is excessive considering the quantity and presentation of the food, in conjunction with slow service and high noise levels. Unfortunately, I felt that prices had been inflated to accomodate for the farm-to-table dining experience, which is not the case at other...
Read moreIt's important to note that my Wife and I normally to the North Wales PA. Location. We happen to be in Newtown today (7/15/2023) as we are every few weeks and decided to stop for Lunch (Or so we thought)
Arrived at Harvest shortly before open and entered the establishment @ 11:34am. We were greeted by a Hostess instantly, who said she would be right with us. She walked away and as she did another individual (Dan or Dave I believe said was his name) approached and ask: "Can I help you?" to which I thought was a little odd as we are used to being asked our Seating or Table preference.
Dan/Dave sat us in a booth in the back of the establishment. Pay in mind we were one of the first few people to enter upon opening, other then us, I could only see a table of two in the main/common dining area and there were two people (Seated at the same table) outside.
After being seated, we looked over the menu's and then the fun started... We waited... And waited... And waited.
I noticed a couple of the staff going by where we sat and use the restrooms. Other staff that could visually see us from the front of the restaurant were standing around. Overall for the approx. 25 minutes we were there and seated, NO ONE APPROACHED OUR TABLE AT ALL AFTER BEING SEATED!
It got to the point (After about 20 Minutes) that my wife could see the frustration on my face and she then asked: "Do you want to go sit at the Bar?" to which my response was: "No, we need to just leave at this point as I won't want to eat here now anyway"
Just before noon, which now was 25 Minutes without anyone coming to the table, we made the decision to leave. As we left and those who initially greeted us never even acknowledged us.
I get and understand if they were busy or at a high volume, but even if that were the case, someone would (Or should) have come to the table and did a "I will be with you in a minute.." kind of thing. As motioned, there were two other sets of customers at the time we had then decided to leave (Table of two inside and a Table of two outside). The restaurant was neither busy or at any kind of capacity. We saw the couple at the inside table be seated, get drinks and put in their orders.
Google Reviews does not allow for no/zero Stars as this deserves. My wife and I will continue to go to the North Wales location, but as this was our first visit to the Newtown location, it will also...
Read moreWe wanted to move Harvest but it was incredibly disappointing. First thing's first the service and workers were very nice including the manager but other than that I'd never go back. The appetizer was okay but beyond that the crab cakes came out cold. Not warm, not lukewarm but cold. Our server took them back and said that the manager would personally deliver them back to the table. Okay? That doesn't make up for the fact that they served a cold platter to the table and all they did was reheat it to the point where they were completely dried out. As far as the crab part of the crab cakes went it was 75% filler on this day. Crab was barely present. $35 for filler is pretty embarrassing.
The other main course was the short ribs with seasonal vegetables and mashed potatoes. Again it was lukewarm. There was no way I was sending it back to be dried out though I just ate quickly while it had some temperature to it but it was again barely warm and some of it was good but there was too many dry parts in the meat. The veggies and potatoes were better.
Other than an apology from the manager and server no accomodations were made. No comp of a dessert or appetizer. No reduction on the $35 charge for cold food reheated until it was dried out. Nothing at all. $100 for a barely passable meal is unacceptable. Experiences like this make you want to cook at home. I made better short ribs in a slow cooker last weekend at home for $25 total. There are too many different restaurants around including in that shopping district to warrant ever going back to Harvest.
Edit: I was asked to contact Gordon at Harvest which I did. He was kind enough to ask what happened and offered a gift card for my troubles which I denied. To be completely honest I'll repeat what I told Gordon. The food was so disappointing it doesn't warrant a second visit gift card or not that's how disappointed we were. We flat out don't want to go back...
