We visited from out of town one recent Saturday before an event. We called ahead and were told they didn’t take reservations, but that there was no wait and we could be seated at or very shortly after arrival. We expected a crowd, so this seemed odd, but decided to roll with it. When we arrived, the place was a madhouse. There is very little room for waiting patrons, resulting quite uncomfortably, in shoulder to shoulder bodies throughout the lobby and exterior foyer. Needless to say, we obviously weren’t seated at arrival. But the restaurant, including the restrooms, was clean and tidy and the staff did not seem overwhelmed or upset by the chaos.
The vegetarian food options were just so-so. Clearly not a menu designed for a non-meat-eater. Ended up just getting a couple of sides and cocktails. Grits were very, very undersalted, but those “elotes” (not sure why they’re calling them “off the cob elotes” when there is a word for that— esquites) we’re off the charts good. A little pinch of lime from my cocktail just sent them to the moon. Could have eaten my weight in those. One of my two cocktails was fantastic— orange vodka, cranberry juice and a lime— highly recommend. The Kentucky mule was unbearably sweet and almost impossible to get through.
Our server (Courtney?) was fantastic. She was super attentive and friendly. She made excellent recommendations from the menu, told us her favorites to try. My only issue was that the devices you pay your bill on kept dying and it was frustrating having to wait for our server to come back, notify her that it was not working, having her go find a new one, having it work for a few seconds and then it die too. Lather, rinse, repeat. There were a few of us, so between the long wait for a table and the delays in being able to pay our bills, it ultimately made us late for our event, which was a bit frustrating.
Overall, I’m not sure if I would personally want to return to Aspen if ever in the area again. I might like to try something new. But I certainly wouldn’t deter anyone else from going. We had an overall fine time. No major issues or complaints and our excellent server really made a less than stellar experience much nicer than it otherwise...
Read moreI went to Aspen Creek Grill for my birthday dinner, and we really enjoyed our time. We used the online waitlist about half an hour before I intended to be there and were seated before the projected wait time. We only waited at the restaurant for about 25 minutes at 630p on a Saturday night. Pretty damn good!
I got the ribeye and pow wow shrimp combo with elotes and a loaded baked potato. I also opted to get the bacon bourbon jam, which was really awesome with the ribeye. The ribeye was VERY seasoned and the bourbon onion jam was sweet and tangy, very good with the steak. The pow wow shrimp could have used some more pow wow, but I loved the fresh cabbage after a few bites of steak. The loaded baked potato -- I mean just look at it. That's one beautiful specimen. It was seasoned well and tasted great. The least favorite part of this meal was the "off the cob elotes," the corn was sweet and the char was great, but the elote part was really not great. The sauce was super watery, and I was expecting creamy. And it was too tangy-sweet -- I couldn't really place my finger on it. It just wasn't right.
The fried pickles were crisp and vinegary, and the ranch was awesome. We also had the spinach artichoke dip, which was well seasoned and tasted like parmesan and artichoke. It would be better served with bread over tortillas.
The Partner Old Fashioned was fine, not great. All bourbon and not enough of the cherry and orange. Will not get again unfortunately. Everyone else loved the $5 sangria bowls, the white sangria was actually quite tasty. Very tart and sour, but good. The Comfortably Numb was a...
Read moreMy wife and I took our son out to dinner tonight to celebrate the first day of his Senior year of high school. He wanted steak so we checked out Aspen Creek Grill’s Thursday Steak Night, and I’m glad we did.
They’ve got a Colorado lodge vibe going on, and even though they were packed by 6:00, we were immediately given a table with no wait.
We started with the Spinach Artichoke Dip, which was delicious. I asked our server if it was free refills, and unfortunately it was not. We could have just eaten it all night long.
For our entrees we got the special 16 oz grilled ribeye with fries and cole slaw, 8 oz USDA choice sirloin with broccoli and sweet potato casserole, and grilled fish tacos with broccoli. The Pow Wow Sauce on the tacos was amazing. I literally said “wow.” We all were impressed with the food and quickly cleaned our plates.
It’s comfort food and I ended the meal proclaiming, “I am conforted.” My wife remarked that the service was the only other place even close to Chick Fil A service. The staff smiled a lot and were very responsive and helpful. My son said the fries were better than Texas Roadhouse, which was his favorite restaurant until tonight. Texas Roadhouse plays all country music, which hurts my heart, mind, soul and spirit. Fortunately Aspen Creek Grill only plays a country song every 8-10 songs.
Oh, and the sweet potato casserole melted my heart and was the perfect dessert. It all was really good, and the prices were a couple dollars lower than I’d expect. When the check came my wife literally said, “that can’t be right.” We will definitely...
