Nazef Char-Grill & Restaurant Lounge — Restaurant in Norfolk

If i could give less than one star I would. My experience here was HORRIBLE. My sister and I arrived on a Saturday night around 11pm. When we were greeted the employee (who I assume is the son of the business owner)he stated that we had to buy a bottled beverage before we could be seated. When we asked why he stated that, when smoking hookah it is necessary to stay hydrated. I informed him that I would not be smoking, just my sister and that I didn't want a drink. He told us he would not even seat us before we purchased the drink. Frustrated, I made a selection and we went to our seat. The hookah area was surprisingly small with only a few small tables crowded together. As I mentioned earlier, my sister was the only one smoking, so when it came to make her hookah order, she requested a single person Hookah. When she told the employee what she wanted he replied and said the she could not have a single person hookah because there were two people seated at the table. I reminded him that I was NOT smoking and was only there as company to her. He told us that didn't matter and would only bring and charge for the larger hookah for 2-3 people as long as I sat at the table. At this point I was extremely annoyed with the treatment and all the up charging that seemed to be going on. Finally my sister received her hookah and was able to relax for a few brief moments. When we were ready to leave we went to the front and the owner was cashing out, he handed us the bill and I informed him that I did not smoke and I did not want to be charged for a bottled beverage I never opened and never even wanted. He became irate and began fussing at my sister and I that we were a cheap table and that he didn't care if we didn't like the service. We paid for the overpriced services and frustrated, we quickly left.

I will NEVER go back to this place, the service was terrible and the management was the equivalent of an angry child. I would not recommend this...

Just a sketch place with terrible business practice. Luckily I’m nowhere near Norfolk and have a lot of wonderful Hookah places around me. Sorry to all the people stationed there who like Hookah.

DON’T GO IF YOU ARE MILITARY.

Myself and three of my friends walked in because we wanted to enjoy some hookah and it was the nearest place. Three of us are military.

I asked if they had military discount out of curiosity and the owner said it was only Wednesday and to come back next Wednesday for the discount. I said that was fine and fully intended on enjoying the hookah either way! I don’t live around here, so wasn’t aware of the policies.

So we decide what we wanted to order and then the waitress mentions their policy of buying drinks. One of my friends mentioned he wasn’t really okay with that and the waitress got somewhat defensive but then argued that she wasn’t offended. That’s fine.. I was okay with it and was intending to pay for everything myself anyways, even my friends drinks, but my friends were uncomfortable and I could tell they wanted to leave. So we said thank you but we changed our mind and proceeded to walk out.

While leaving, the owner (I’m assuming. I could be wrong), said “WOW. Thank you for wasting my time!! Thank you for wasting my time”

This whole thing took no more than five minutes, and was truly the rudest experience I’ve ever had.

I’m actually polite to a fault, and I feel their reactions were very uncalled for. I’m not sure if they have a bad taste for military or were just having a bad day in general.. but I would never recommend that place based on this experience. First, I should say it is good to have hookah lounge in Norfolk. I hope the business owner read my points and try to make the quality better. I will try to come back to Norfolk next year and visit Nazef place to check the hookah quality again and revise my review.

Pros: Cozy place with comfortable furniture Reasonable price

Cons: They resuse disposal hoses!!! I have no issue with one dollar extra charge for the disposal hose, but I have issue with reusing a used disposal hose. (It is not acceptable!!!) Because of the tiny head, the tobacco burns in the very first minute. The hookah head should be bigger and deeper! Resuse the same hookah body for different flavor without washing it properly! So you dont get the flavor you want! I ordered orange mint, but it smells like mixed of double apple, grape and peach as well as orange mint!! They replace the charcoal very frequently so you need to wait again and again for the new charcol to gets red. They put the new raw(black) charcoal on top of the red charcol to burn!!! If you smoke the raw charcol it gives you headache and it kills the flavor with the chemical smell. Basically they should prepare the charcoal first and replace the red charcoal with the old one. They charge one dollar extra for credit card purchase. (I had no issue to pay more for the hookah and the service, but extra charge for credit card...
