The atmosphere is intimate, pleasant and clean. I'll give them that. Beyond that, there's not much reason to go.
Let's start with the service. It wasn't unfriendly, but there was zero warmth from the hostess, server, or anyone else we encountered. There was no greeting, no smile, no "So glad you're here with us tonight," no suggested menu items or descriptions.... Just "Are you ready to order?" Again, it wasn't unfriendly, and the staff all seemed to be working diligently. With some proper education and training, given that they seemed to be hard workers, I think the staff could excel and succeed.
The food? The only reason they earned above a one star grade was the pizza. We got the Arugula & Prosciutto pizza with Parmesan on top. It was acceptable-- not great, not even good, but acceptable, though for $24, I'd like to think it would be far better. They put the parmesan strips on post-oven, which makes sense in that you don't want to scorch the parm, but at least bring it up to room temperature first! Nope, it was cold and hard (and of low quality as well). The "garlic rolls"? Premade large dinner rolls with some canned parmesan and dried herbs shaken on. Very little garlic, and zero flavor pop. Extremely disappointing. The caramelized onion flatbread? $17 for a total fail. First, there's a huge difference between caramelizing onions and absolutely torching them to bitterness. They were disgusting-- I wouldn't even feed them to my enemies. Second, for $17, where's the complimenting flavor layers, the artisnal presentation, or anything else??? Bringing it to us on a cracked wooden board doesn't count.
Before ordering, I asked our waitress how the Carbonara is made (BTW linguine? Why? It's supposed to be made with Spaghetti or Spaghettoni, not a flat noodle!). She said "It's a white cream sauce with bacon, parmesan, egg..." WHAT?!?! Carbonara does NOT have bacon in it, nor should it be made with cream or parmesan! It should be made with guanciale or, at the very least, pancetta. NO BACON! Then, what the heck with the parmesan?! Use Pecorino Romano, and don't use the cheap stuff. Lastly, cream? NOOOOO! The pasta water, egg, and Pecorino Romano combine to make a creamy sauce. No need for cream to be added-- that's the cheating of a poor chef.
In closing, we won't be going back. If you want nice ambiance with D- "Italian" food and subpar service (again, not the fault of the staff-- that's on lack of training and leadership), then this place is for you. If you want amazing artisan pizza? Go across the street to 1000°, and if you want authentic southern Italian food? Try...
Read moreI used to frequent this restaurant on numerous occasions, but it had been over two years since my last visit. Hoping for a delightful experience with good Italian cuisine, I was utterly disappointed.
Upon arrival, our server noticed one Latino in our party and assumed Spanish would be our preferred language, leaving the remaining friends baffled. The extensive menu, which included empanadas (not an Italian dish), seemed to explain the disappointing quality of the food. I believe a concise menu with quality dishes is preferable to a lengthy one with very subpar meals. The ravioli with "alfredo sauce" turned out to be a blend of pure cream and milk, lacking any discernible flavor. Even the eggplant parm, a seemingly straightforward dish, lacked taste.
I must emphasize to the servers the importance of NOT clearing one person's plate while the rest of the party is still eating. It's BASIC hospitality knowledge to wait until everyone has finished before removing plates.
Surprisingly, the restaurant was nearly empty inside, with only the outdoor tables occupied. This was a stark contrast to my previous experiences, leading me to believe there may have been a change in ownership that affected the ambiance, the service and the food.
Overall, this was a disappointing experience, and I've decided not to return to this restaurant. Fortunately, there is a better option just a couple of blocks south with exceptional food and service, making it a more appealing choice for...
Read moreSo we came here by mistake thinking that they do miami spice and thank god it was a mistake. The service is outstanding. Next to that because of the mix up they gave us awesome different things to try and even a discount. Which I have to say that wasn't even needed. The food was so good that I couldn't stop eating. You were able to tell that literally everything is house made. It was so fresh and unique that I was finally surprised by a place. The owners are super sweet and really try to give the best service and food. You can tell that they opened up and care for the tastebuds of their customers. I would come back anytime including bringing my friends. Just because I know you won't get disappointed. The place is actually spacious which you can't even tell looking from outside. I usually never give five starts but this place deserves more than five stars. He didn't even send the homeless person away like other Resteraunt's do, instead he gave her an ashtray. It's usually a thing just to send them away even if they don't bother anyone and it usually bothers me when they do that. So human wise top notch! I just fell in love with this place and I hope they get a bunch of customers it's a hidden treasure. They also sell house made pasta you can freeze and cook anytime. I Who else offers this much! I can just say it's more than worth trying this place. And I'm definitely...
