I hadn't been to El Cerro (Gator Hole Plaza, North Myrtle Beach) in ages and Mom mentioned wanting enchiladas, so we had a night out. They've revamped the menu and changed the inside of the restaurant a bit since I was there last, and it was really nice. Mom ended up having their beef chimichangas, which she gave rave reviews. I had the vegetarian enchiladas with poblano cream sauce, which were very good, although very mild in spice level. I wouldn't have minded a little heat. I love their chips and salsa, and they did not disappoint. I asked about tamales, but they do not carry them, which was disappointing, but not surprising. They are very time consuming to make, not something that is put together easily from ready to go ingredients like a burrito or tostada. I used to get Chile relleno there, which I did not see on the menu, but I might have just missed it once I saw the vegetarian enchiladas. We splurged on churros with vanilla ice cream for dessert. I wasn't expecting to be so overwhelmed with how good the churros were! How can fried dough with cinnamon and sugar be THAT good? I don't know but it was magical. The staff were all very nice and helpful, and I so appreciated them accommodating me with my walker and holding the door for me when we left. They were so kind. Great food, not too expensive, nice people, I highly...
Read moreReally great fajitas for two. Literally a vat of food and the sides that came with it were savory as well. The tomatillos hot sauce rivals the best I’ve tasted and I’ll be back for more. Many more dishes on the menu I’d like to try. Plain chips and salsa are served prior to the meal. Drinks were well made and hit the spot. If you want a taco salad you should order the one on the menu otherwise you will get something very generic like my wife did. She sent it back and ordered something else. They were gracious about it and understood completely. There may have been a slight "language barrier" happening between us and our waitress. We returned for a second time and our meals were great again. I could eat Mexican food two or three times a week so I’m running out of people to take with me to this El Cerro location! The queso cheese sauce was a perfect appetizer since the give you chips and salsa anyway. Not sure why they didn’t have Modelo light on tap but that may just have been the night I was there. Prices were modest considering the large portions. I ate almost all my food anyway. Cowboy chimichanga is my new favorite dish and my wife loves the...
Read moreExpensive food, and 20% tip is required. Maybe people weren’t tipping..? I’m not sure. I ordered the 3 chicken tacos with cilantro, pickled onions and lime (no rice and beans included in the hefty price either). Yes.. my personal preference is flour tortillas, so I ordered that as well with my tacos. The chicken was fine… other than it desperately needing seasoning, at least salt!! Plus, the flour tortilla was obviously just one of those mission microwaved tortillas. Definitely not worth the price. My family also discovered that the “burger” my little sister ordered for $8 or so was a single slider with fries. I know they neglect the kids menu that includes american food sometimes at mexican restaurants, but a tiny slider..? They could do better than that. If you’d like to go somewhere that’s the same price with a good view and good interior design, go to Taco Mundo. It’s such a wonderful place with great food!! On the bright side, the chips and mild salsa was delicious. Although, that’s free. The food we were paying for? Not so much.
(P.S., the restaurant smelled...
