If you're considering checking out cozumel restaurants, I highly suggest skipping it for a higher quality Mexican restaurant. Which, would be easy to do in this case.
The first major red flag was the plates "coming out hot" even the corn tortillas were scorching. Which is a well known restaurant sign that your food was microwaved. You could also tell by how crunchy and dry the rice was. It wasn't freshly made that day. The chips were also stale.
The pastor tacos were OK and of course they're made with pineapple but pineapple chunks shouldn't be making up 85% of the substance on the taco. It should be meat. I've been to hundreds of Mexican restaurants and this was the first one to leave giant, unappetizing pineapple chunks in the meat. Which skimps you from actually getting the protien. Money saving hack? Maybe.
Secondly, almost 15 dollars for 3 tacos and rice and beans? Are you kidding me? I can go to Aranads in Racine and get the same dish (much better quality) for like, $6 dollars cheaper!
Also, what kind of Mexican restaurant doesn't keep Verde or other traditional sauces on the table? We had to ask for verde and it was an extra charge! Are you kidding?! What next, extra charge for salt and pepper? Literally any other Mexican restaurant you go to will have that stuff already at the table for you. To charge nearly a dollar for sauce, ridiculous.
TLDR; eaters beware. This place will scalp you and not provide quality to justify the costs. Find a better Mexican restaurant to patronize. We will...
Read moreThis place was highly recommended by other reviewers so hubby and I gave this place a shot...and I'm glad we did. The atmosphere is wonderful...lots of great murals depicting Mexican celebrities (check out the Frida y Diego room...a really nice mural of the two artists is there, as well as a Rivera-inspired mural on the opposite wall). Cheerful music was played throughout the restaurant, providing a party-like atmosphere, and it wasn't so loud that you couldn't hear the person across from you.
Our server, Martha was friendly and efficient; unfortunately, I wished she'd come back to check on us a little more frequently. Maybe we got lost in the crowd because it was a busy night, but it was a little disappointing. (I'd only take off a half a star for service, but the system only lets you rate in 1 star increments.) The food was AMAZING...I had the Texas fajitas, and hubby had a chimichanga. My husband is hard to please when it comes to food, but he praised the dish he had and said the food was better than our regular Mexican joint in Nashville! My Texas fajitas were delicious... perfectly seasoned, juicy, and served piping hot. My mouth is watering now from just thinking about it 🤤! Portions are generous so you'll want to take leftovers to enjoy the next day. I highly recommend this restaurant - it's clean, beautifully decorated, has great music, delicious food and nice people. If I return to Milwaukee I will...
Read moreMight be worth the extra drive to Milwaukee if you want closer to authentic food.
The place isn't legit if the standard taco comes out with shredded cheese, lettuce and tomatoes. The salsa wasn't hot either. You have to let them know you want the cilantro and onions version. The food was salty, but probably average for the demographic they're catering towards. I couldn't finish my sides because the rice and beans were too salty.
The real taco was pretty good and I would go back for it if I was in the mood.
The staff were pretty nice. And we got seated really fast. I went with a big group of friends. The atmosphere is also aesthetically pleasing. We saw lots of other families there.
Overall, I can see what segment of the local Oak Creek population they're catering towards. And if you like to have your food graciously seasoned and kinda Americanized and if you cannot handle spice...this is the place to be. For everyone else, might be worth the few extra minutes drive to Milwaukee area. If you just need a place to hangout with friends, I'd also recommend it because the vibe and...
