Update: 4/21/2018 Wow! Came here the other night and it looks like a new restaurant! First, I love the name. It’s a nice little play on words from the original phrase “ Hecho en Mexico”. Huge improvement to the interior. Very unique, vibrant, hip, with touch of traditional, yet modern take, on Mexican decor & art! They completely revamped and changed the menu too! Homemade tortillas for the tacos and a small collection of good tequila like Herradura and Espolón. I found my new taco spot in Oak Park. Can’t wait to go back! ————- Nice local spot for Mexican food. I had the veggie burrito which was very tasty. Speaking of vegetarian options, I read a comment that it lacked veggie options, which confused me. Almost every item on their menu has the option to sub meat or veggies. Also comparing Suburrito to Chipotle is unfair. That's like comparing Starbucks to a local coffee shop, it's just a little different. I digress. There are plenty of great things to like about Suburrito. Friendly staff, authentic cuisine, and they deliver to name a few. That being said the inside can use some work. It looked empty. Bare walls, no music, and tacky signs on the windows. I think they just opened so I don't expect this to be an issue long term. Best of luck.

If you're looking for a relaxed evening with a drink in hand and irresistible bites like tacos and nachos, this spot is just what you need! Tucked along the vibrant Lake Street, this cozy yet lively Mexican restaurant brings the Oak Park’s energy right to your table. The ambiance is a joyful tribute to Dia de los Muertos, with colorful artwork that instantly brightens the space and sets the mood. Though intimate in size, the atmosphere is brimming with fun and flavor. One of my favorite menu is The Mexican street corn, coated in mayo, Mexican cheese and smoky paprika. The menu is packed with bold flavors, whether you opt for the variety of tacos, the hearty burritos, or any of the other mouthwatering dishes. Every plate delivers a vibrant, satisfying taste that keeps you coming back for more.

Was here a few months ago and it was a burrito place that had just opened, which we really enjoyed. I was really in the mood for a burrito too. Pity businesses can't seem to stay open in Oak Park - can't keep up! So we tried THIS place out. They seem to only have tacos or nachos on the menu, but then again, I was told it was an "old" menu, so who knows what else they might have. Portions were small, water glasses even smaller, and things were really pricey. I ordered nachos - they came in bowl with bean paste and melted cheese at the bottom of the bowl under the chips, and a sparse sprinkling of the other toppings added, with some crema drizzled over the top. They were tasty, but definitely not worth the price. I guess you have to charge a premium to try to keep afloat?

Food was mediocre and warranted 3.5 stars as it isn't good enough to travel for. Knocked it down 2.5 stars for customer service. When we entered, we were waiting by the sign that said wait to be seated, and were called up to the register to order. We weren't asked if it was for Dine-In or Take-Out so we assumed that we would be able to eat at the tables inside or outside as it looks to be set-up like a order at the counter type joint. We had never been here before but were in the area and the reviews looked promising. There is a sign on the register that says take out cannot dine in which I assumed meant if you had called in or ordered online but it wasn't super clear so we may have made a mistake too. However, when we saw other people come in after us and were seated, we let them know we had a misunderstanding, as our food had not yet been prepared, and asked if we could change it to dine-in (no one was dining in except for one table so there were spots) and they said no it was our fault for not reading the sign. The food hadn't even been packed up yet, it could have been put on plates instead. I understand if they want servers to make money, but we had tipped 20% when we ordered at the register thinking we were dining in, so they would have made the same amount for doing no work except letting us sit down. Mistakes happen, but having to eat outside holding our food when we had chips and salsa was not ideal. We couldn't even really put salsa on our tacos or enjoy any of the flavors because we had to juggle our food and the salsas. We aren't local so we didn't really have anywhere else to eat. Just wish they would have shown a little sympathy or understanding to make for a better eating experience. Like I said, maybe we at also a little at fault for being confused on the signage but we were turned off by the experience and...

I have eaten before at Hecho and really enjoyed their food. But I just had an unexpected and major problem with Hecho. I had google searched for the menu, found the item I wanted, which was clearly labeled. I ordered through the pick-up option. After picking up the order, it was not what I had ordered. I called and was told to bring it back. Before I did, I read out loud the description on the ordering site to clarify what I wanted. The staff person told me I was describing the wrong thing. I asked her to check the ordering platform used, and she kept telling me, well, that not what's on our menu. I then returned to pick up the corrected order which I should have checked before going home, because I then discovered Hecho had given me the exact same incorrect order. I checked on the Hecho website itself and saw the item described as very different than it was on the google pick up menu. I called back to say that I would bring the order back and speak to someone in person. At some point it would have been a cool thing for them to offer me at least a complimentary item, but no dice. The problem was clearly an issue of a discrepancy between the Hecho site, and the google menu, which I assume to be the responsibility of the restaurant to correct.

After two return trips to the the restaurant, several phone calls, and a very frustrating conversation with the manager, sgr begrudgingly refunded my money, but their attitude came off dismissive of their failure to correct the other ordering platform, and it seemed I was a pain for pointing out the discrepancy. Although I like the food at Hecho, I don't feel respected as a customer. The next day, a Hecho staff person called to ask what ordering...

STOP! Go elsewhere! First, I stood at the register for 17 minutes before ANYONE spoke to me! No one greeting me as I entered and literally walked past me as I walked to the back as if I was in THEIR way.

Second, it looked like the staff was SO disorganized to the point it was like a Benny hill or Kitchen Nightmares episode. They were constantly arguing about the orders in the window with the chefs, that I knew after ordering my food the wait would be long (before I got it). And I only ordered 3 tacos, beans and chips!!!!!!

Third, after waiting another 30 minutes to get our food, we took it home to find out it was not exactly what we ordered. The Carne Asada and Al Pastor Tacos had Guacamole on it. Which a) I did NOT order, b) I am allergic too, c) is not listed in the description of the those items on the menu. It seemed like either I got the WRONG order or the chefs are just doing whatever and no one is QAing the orders.

Fourth, for 3.50 PER taco the flavor should be amazing and the tacos should be a substantial size. The person I gave the tacos to (because I am allergic to Guacamole) stated it was "no seasoning on the tacos" plus they were so small that White castle sliders are probably bigger.

Fifth, and most importantly if a customer is a bit rude or asking too much, keep it on the dl, do NOT switch to another language and talk amongst yourselves on the floor. Even people with a rudimentary knowledge of that language can understand you are talking badly about a customer and also when add body language like rolling your eyes intensely stare at THAT customer, etc and then state in English afterwards "OH my GOD". That does not make me want to walk into this disorganized, rude and overpriced...
