I’m actually writing this post from inside of the restaurant. I recently relocated to oak park and was looking for a cafe to finish working and make a regular spot. I was excited when I came across this place. I love Hispanic culture and coffee. My colleagues introduced me to a while ago, and I’ve been hooked ever since! Let’s start with the positives. The atmosphere is super chill, chic and cute! I love the brightness and layout of the location. I ordered a coffee w/Vanilla Bourbon, it was delicious. I highly recommend! My issue was with the level of service I received while inside the establishment. My partner and I didn’t receive a welcome, when I proceeded to order, the gentleman who took my order (didn’t catch their name) was extremely disconnected, and somewhat callous. I disregarded and continued to order. They barely said one word to me while taking my order. Still I paid, and actually tipped them. We sat to the back on one of the sofas, and continued to work. As I worked, a few more patrons entered the establishment, all greeted with warm smiles and high levels of engagement. My partner and I looked at one another and moved on. Another patron walked in, and was greeted the same, warm & friendly. At this point I noticed a trend. Myself and partner are both African American, and the other customers (by eye) were White. Each were welcomed, had small talked, shared laughs etc. This became even more apparent by the 3rd or 4th customer. It’s sad to think this is the procuring cause of the disconnect and mistreatment. I’m not one to jump them the gun and pass judgement or assume, but I can only draw that conclusion. It’s a sad thought or feeling especially in this day and age, however I’ve been in a similar boat at another establishment, that person was terminated due to a high inflow of similar complaints. I’m not necessarily saying this person should be fired. It’s hard enough trying to find a job as it is! However, they should implement some form of diversity training. Regardless of someone’s skin color, We are all HUMAN. And should be treated as such. I work hard for the money I make. I don’t spend it at places where I’m not valued or appreciated. I was extremely offended by this. My partner wanted to speak to someone, I stopped them, because the pen is mightier than the sword! This may go unnoticed and some may not even care, due to them sharing the same disgusting views on this topic. It’s safe to say we won’t be back, clearly that won’t stop the wheels from turning here. I just hope they diversify their staff and educate them on where the world currently is. Because whereas I’M able to turn a forgiving hand, most people aren’t. This is such a disappointment because I loved the coffee and vibe they’re creating. But...
Read moreI just wanted to start this review off by saying the customer service is on point and the atmosphere of this place is nice , reminds me of lavazza idk if they are inspired by them or not.
Now to the coffee and food , the reason I'm giving a 4 star review instead of 5 is solely because of price to flavor ratio. The coffee was good but really bold and eventho I added a shot of espresso it was way more bold than i am used too. the flavor profile of the coffee was ok but I've had better for less. I recommend letting the ice melt a bit before drinking because the concentrate is stronger than most spots.
The menu in this place is Spanish inspired ,the Berria chicken chiliques was 🔥, but unfortunately they ran out of pickled red onions so I couldn't enjoy the full flavor and honestly they tasted more like bar nachos more than anything which isn't a bad thing but not traditional.
The iberico toast was good but a bit bland , the ham carried it for sure , i think it will benefit from some pickled red onions to balance out the fattyness of the ham vs the honey they put on it.
Overall I had a good experience here and can see myself coming back in the future , I'm sure the price is expensive due to them being downtown oakpark but with the competition in the area its going to be hard for this place. Lastly the worker here was chill and handling the entire store by himself on a Sunday , give that man a raise and hire him some help because if it gets busy he will...
Read moreI am so disappointed in this establishment. When they opened I was so excited to support a Mexican owned & inspired coffee shop. I went there so much because their coffees were great and the staff was amazing. However I had such a shameful experience this weekend. I was so excited to show up for their anniversary event, I planned my whole day to come in enjoy some coffee and the events they had promoted in the oak park location. When I got there it seemed I was the only one there for the event , the few very little guests that were there seemed to be busy doing work. I came in asking about the event and was assured it was that day & time. I waited 35 minutes and no other guests showed up for their anniversary event. I even asked one of the ladies who was setting up, they did not care that I was there to show support. It seemed they did not care for my business as a Mexican customer. They never cared to make me feel welcome as the only customer that showed up for this anniversary event and it was clear they were waiting for a larger crowd that never rolled in. It’s a shame that a mexican owned establishment trying to make a name for themselves in this community only cared to please a demographic of customers that didn’t show up. I was very sad at this experience and I will no longer be recommending this place or supporting the business. I hope they change their mindset moving forward,...
