TODAY I CELEBRATED, MY 30th BIRTHDAY WITH 2 of my 11 AMERICAN GIRL DOLLS. WHILE DRIVING DOWN FROM, RALEIGH NORTH CAROLINA. I RECIEVED A CALL FROM JESSICA AT AMERICAN GIRL , ORLANDO.

SHE WAS CONFIRMING MY RESERVATION FOR MY 6:00 pm 30th BIRTHDAY DINNER.

(YES 30th BIRTHDAY DINNER.) lol

I TOLD HER I WAS CELEBRATING ALONE😞 DUE TO GOING THRU A DIVORCE & THIS WILL BE MY FIRST BIRTHDAY , BEING ALONE IN 11 YEARS. I TOLD HER , I BROUGHT MY AMERICAN GIRL DOLLS TO KEEP ME COMPANY ON MY TRIP TO ORLANDO.

WHEN ARRIVED, I HAD LEA & ADREANNA MY TRULY ME DOLL.

WHEN I WAS SEATED, MY HEART NEARLY DROPPED!

A.G ORLANDO HAD MADE ME A CUSTOM CROWN THAT SAYS, HAPPY 30th BIRTHDAY AND THERE WAS AN ENVELOPE THAT HAD MY NAME ON IT!

I OPEN THE ENVELOPE AND ALL THE STAFF SIGNED IT GIVING ME WONDERFUL & MEMORABLE BIRTHDAY BLESSINGS.

AT THIS MOMENT I'M CRYING BECAUSE THIS IS THE SWEETEST THING. THEY WENT ABOVE & BEYOND JUST FOR ME.

I checked out this place both times I checking out the Mall of Orlando.

First of all, I can say it was quiet Yet very cozy in atmosphere. It felt like a safe shelter from all the crazy stuff going on outside in the world. Yet I don’t think I’ve ever experienced an aroma like this in the air of any public place before, and I’ve been to so many other places in my life.

There were so many dolls of various sizes, including the standards and minis, and my mom assumed the minis were there for people who could afford a bargain (such as $25) whereas the full-sized dolls are currently $115 (back then, they used to be $65) which makes them more suitable for collectors as special holiday gift investments.

I eventually realized I should’ve bought mini dolls for my closet after my first visit, next to a totally-unrelated figure, knowing that doing so helps the store make more money, given that the AG places are on the menu of the retail apocalypse (which started in 2008 and was accelerated by the COVID-19 lockdowns), and that buying would increase the chances of lease renewals, therefore increasing the life expectancies of the stores.

I went again (the day before Easter 2024) and unfortunately Molly and Samantha weren’t visible in full size besides some of their accessories, making me learn what cubed really means (yet Samantha, Molly, and Addy are all cubed), but their mini versions are still available, therefore I ended up splurging on 6 mini dolls for a total of $149.94 (my father gave me $150 gift money - which’s surprisingly $1 short of one 18” doll + the book + the accessories combined). This problem made me think about the fate of the stores as Samantha and Molly are among the best-selling characters in American Girl, and without the most sought-after dolls, the demand would be reduced, putting the stores at risk of shuttering.

Overall, I’m so glad I checked this place out both times in March and enjoyed it when it lasts. You can do more than just buying things in this place. It’s more than just a store, it’s an experience, an attraction, which normal stores aren’t set up as.

There are times where people find places they never want to leave so soon or that they never want to go away so soon, and the AG place has done a good job at that despite me knowing that stores are only open for certain periods of the day and some are gone at some point.

And after all, American Girl is to American history as Dr. Seuss was to reading. American Girl helped make children have fun studying American history and Dr. Seuss helped make children have fun...

I went to the store and purchased some items through their Affirm option. 1 of the items I ended up needing to return. I live 1 hour and 45 mins away so I called 1st to ensure I would be able to return the item or at minimum receive a store credit because I couldn't locate my receipt. The salesperson told me I would be able to return the item and even gave me my transaction number and the register number to provide at the store. Today we drove all the way there and they would not let me return the item nor would they issue me a store credit. I explained what I was told over the phone and that I drove a long way just to be denied. They said it did not matter. That a corporate supervisor had just informed them over the phone that because I purchased the item through their Affirm system they do not allow returns or store credit. Now I am stuck with a $235 item that is of no use to me. She mentioned something about me shipping it to their corporate office or something of that nature but the shipping for this heavy item may end up being almost as much as the item itself. Of course the cost is on me to ship. I am highly disappointed with American Girl. I thought they had a good customer service experience because of my initial visit but all good nature towards them is gone now. I will never purchase from them again and will encourage others not to as well. They have no signage or policy displayed that says if you use Affirm there are no returns or store credit. They really need to let people know...
