Shah's Halal Food — Restaurant in Oak Ridge

The food smelled so delicious. I smelled it from across the plaza and knew I had to come here. Came at 10:30pm on a Tuesday and more people were coming after 11pm. They’re open till 2 or 3am! The staff were happy, smiling, and super friendly when we went.

We were recommended the fish, but wanted to try everything so we got 2 combo platters. Got one lamb and falafel platter and one chicken and fish platter. The rice was perfectly cooked - al dente, seasoned well, had tons of cumin seeds, and flavorful but not too salty. The meat is tender, soft, flavorful, leaning towards the saltier side, but balanced really well in combination with rice and veggies.

The fish was battered and fried so well. Super surprised how good it was. So flavorful, soft juicy bites with a crispy thin fried layer. Highly recommend! But would probably only get the fish if I’m dining in, not to-go.

Each falafel is a pretty large, dense ball but it was cooked all the way through. The outside is crispy, almost crunchy, with a bit of a kick as well.

The green sauce was so refreshing with a tiny kick of spicy. Their white sauce is not too heavy. I like their bbq sauce a lot cause it’s more refreshing, lighter, and reminds me of an Indian tamarind chutney. You can get as much sauce as you want or get it on the side.

Both the falafel and green sauce spicy levels are very mild and they don’t linger, which is perfect for me because it feels complimentary to the food rather than overpowering with spicy. I do wish the falafel was a little less dense, but overall still good.

Honestly, I love this place. I’ve loved their food since I was a little girl. My grandparents lived in NYC, and every summer we’d visit them in queens. We would walk from their house to the Shah’s halal cart off of Liberty ave across from the citi bank. We would have to get it every year we went, multiple times. Whenever they would be coming down to see us in Florida, they would ask if there’s anything we wanted. My brothers and I always asked them to freeze Shah’s food and bring it to us. We didn’t care if it wasn’t fresh, we craved this year round. From a little girl up until an adult, we would visit this same cart and my dad and I had a conversation in 2017 with the man in the cart about bringing a location to Orlando because there are a lot of Muslims in the area who would love. I remember the man saying that they wanted to and he hopes they could expand one day. Fast forward to to 2025, and my brothers tell me there’s a location in Orlando that opened. We rushed over and saw it was true, and the portion size, food quality, and bang for your buck have not changed. I will forever be a fan of their food and the quality here. My family and I recently dined at this restaurant, and we were beyond impressed with our experience. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and a welcoming atmosphere. The customer service was truly outstanding—every staff member we interacted with was friendly, attentive, and eager to make our visit enjoyable. The team behind the counter was especially helpful, readily answering our questions and ensuring we had everything we needed.

As for the food, it was absolutely delicious! Each dish was beautifully presented, and the flavors were even better than we had hoped. The white sauce, in particular, was rich, creamy, and packed with flavor, adding the perfect touch to our meal. The portion sizes were extremely generous—so much so that two of us were able to share a single meal and still feel completely satisfied.

Overall, we couldn’t have asked for a better dining experience. Between the exceptional service, the inviting atmosphere, and the mouthwatering food, this restaurant has definitely earned a spot on our list of favorites.
