The Tartine of the Sierra Foothills - Don't miss this gem on your way to Yosemite! The Food: Sticks Coffee's food is delicious. They use a lot of locally grown ingredients and their bread is made in-house. I could eat here everyday. Their baked goods are next level - Tartine Bakery quality. Sticks regularly offers galettes/tarts, scones, raspberry ricotta cake (my favorite), toffee cookies, chocolate banana bread, and sourdough loaves (must order a day or days in advance). Their team of bakers are extremely talented. Sticks also has delicious open-faced sandwiches: avocado toast, cream cheese and lox with pickled onion (my favorite), and some seasonal items like heirloom tomato toast and tuna sandwiches. The Coffee: The owners have mastered the art of roasting beans. They do not over roast and the result is a cup of coffee that is multi-layered and rich with flavor. Most people are used to a dark roast that is more bitter. This is not that kind of coffee. This is more like drinking fine wine - more flavors reveal themselves as you drink. The Company: The owners are extremely lovely and hilarious. They’ve been practicing the art and science of coffee for more than a decade in Portland, Oregon, and know what they are doing. There's a great community around the cafe and they've created an environment that is chill, inclusive, and playful. Local artwork rotates through the space on a monthly basis. I also love their competent and friendly staff. I often leave the cafe smiling or laughing. The Venue: The cafe is located in one of the best venues in town. It’s in the heart of downtown Mariposa in a historic building (constructed in 1891) and next door to the oldest motel in Mariposa (The River Rock Inn). There’s a lot of great outdoor seating (full sun and full shade spots) and some indoor seating. Recommendations: This cafe has a large local following. Their famous galettes/tarts often sell out before 9am. I recommend arriving before 8:30am for the full array of baked goods. We miss them on Sundays and Mondays when they are closed, so I stock up on treats on Saturday. I also stock up on their baked goods when I visit friends. They are always a hit! I am so grateful for this cafe that brings such high quality food and coffee to this rural town!

Amazing coffee and service here! I stopped by Sticks this morning on my way into Yosemite to get my daily caffeine fix and I'm so happy I did. Finding Sticks is a bit tricky since the street it's on is partially closed for a restaurant's outdoor seating area, but you can park outside of Subway, walk up the street a bit to the right side of the outdoor seating area, and it will be on your right side. Walking up to the cafe, I loved the way the front looked so I took a picture (see attached). Going inside, I was immediately greeted by the barista even though they were in the middle of creating another drink. While they were making the drink, they asked me what I'd like and I ordered a Sticks Latte. After finishing the first drink, the barista quickly but fastidiously made mine. The way the creamy milked was poured and the toppings shaved from a grinder directly in front of me was amazing and made me want my drink immediately! They even left the top off for me so I could admire the work of art, but gave me the lid on the side so I could cover it later. The Sticks Latte really tasted amazing! Silky smooth milk and espresso flavor with the interesting flavor of the shavings on top (still unsure on what it is, but it was good) made for a truly lovely morning coffee break. I think I might have to go here again before I leave Yosemite!

Excellent breakfast option in Mariposa! I had their delicious breakfast sammie and lovely Happy Camper latte - everything was SO good - service was friendly and prices were decent too. The breakfast sammie is eggs, bacon, cheese, and avocado with an unexpected but fantastic bit of pickled peppers for a delightful little kick. It was one of the best breakfast sandwiches I’ve had in California and would definitely recommend! And how could I resist their Happy Camper Latte? Anyone that knows me knows I love all things marshmallow and this was phenomenal! It’s basically a s’mores flavored latte that comes topped with two giant, perfectly toasted marshmallows. I got it iced - the coffee was smooth and it was surprisingly not overly sweet - It was heavenly! I loved their location too - the little town of Mariposa is very walkable and Sticks is located right at the entrance of the cute River Rock Inn. They had a cozy ambiance with plenty of inside seating as well as a few outside tables surrounded by plants and flowers with views of the town. If you’re staying at the River Rock Inn, you get 20% off your breakfast from 7-10am as well so that’s pretty cool! I stayed nearby while visiting Yosemite but would consider staying here next time - and will definitely be back for breakfast next time I’m in town!
