I would like to rate 3.5 but it was closer to 3 than 4. I ordered a full rack of ribs and actually got a full rack minus 3 bones. Not a full rack. I watched him cut the rack and reserve 3 bones. The ribs are smoked, flash fried and then sauced. My preference is to receive them dry and dip my own sauce. I probably could have asked for this if I had known this is what they were going to do. Because of this, my ribs seem to be very salty. I did like the tenderness, soft and juicy. Fall off the bone but lacked that pull that you usually get with smoked meat. The baked beans didn’t seem to be baked at all. There was no meat in the beans and really lack flavor. I added some barbecue sauce to the baked beans and that improve the flavor. The street corn was very good. I could’ve ordered an extra one of those. I also ordered the peach bourbon cake. The cake itself was moist and buttery. The peaches had good southern flavor. My preference the icing was too sweet. Again, that’s just my preference but overall was very good. So I would say the ribs were a 3, street corn 5, cake 4 and the beans 2. Overall was definitely not a bad meal, but I likely won’t come back. Also at 2:30pm they were sold out of brisket , pulled pork and macaroni and cheese. If you are in the area, come check...
Read moreWe were leaving my family’s house in Lushmeadows when we decided to stop by the cute little BBQ place in Mariposa (Smokin Oak BBQ). I knew a couple of people that worked there, just like every other business in Mariposa. My wife and I decided to get a brisket sandwich with street corn, and the loaded frito pie with brisket. We got the food to go because we were in a hurry, but we pulled over by the Mariposa airport to wolf it down. We parked above the airport so we could have a nice view in the AC while we ate. Once we started, my wife made more moaning noises than she did at home. I instantly knew she was pleased. Once I tried mine, I knew I would be returning to this meat palace almost every trip home. We both finished at the same time and then headed back home, very happy! Only try Smokin Oak BBQ if you like your wife and your meats to be moist. We definitely recommend the white sauce. I promise you’ll be...
Read moreWe shared a 2 meat plate of ribs and brisket, with a side of beans and a watermelon salad. The ribs and brisket were good, but we didn't see the extra BBQ sauce until we were cleaning up. It may have all been claimed at the moment, so make sure you look for it if you need some. The beans were a little disappointing, they call them Country Beans, as they are definitely not BBQ beans. They were a little bland and way too watery imho. However, the watermelon salad was a delight, mixed with cucumber, mint and jalapeño, it was a nice flavorful refreshing change of pace. I would definately recommend the watermelon (though it's likely season), as it's not too hot, and you can avoid the jalapeños if you don't care for them. Walk down the hall and the inside seating is the brewery and bar "next door." Make sure to think about what you are ordering to drink at the counter, because you may want a...
