Pretty bad experience at Bardo, cannot recommend. The environment is beautiful, the menu looks great, but in execution there were many failures.
First off, we ordered drinks and they trickled in to our table over 15 minutes, not really making it possible to enjoy our cocktails together. Apps were mediocre to bad: the pickled vegetables were tough and hard to eat, there was a pickled squash with the skin on that was not edible.
Next, there was a vegetarian item that they ran out of on the menuāthat left one entrĆ©e that we could order that didnāt have meat. Not a big deal. With had 3/4 vegetarians at the table, we were hoping we wouldnāt all have the get the exact same dish so we asked if it would be possible to do a plate of sides combining several of the wonderful sounding items. The kitchen said no, leaving us only one option for dinnerāwe were told āthe chef highly recommends the gnocchiā. Welp, we were definitely going to order that but had hoped we wouldnāt be ordering 3 of them. Whatever, thatās fine.
The gnocchi arrives and itās nearly inedibleāthey were trying to balance the heavy cream sauce by dashing some vinegar on it, but in practice that meant every other bite had a terribly strong acidic vinegar flavor that was so pungent it kind of made you wince. Everyone who had gnocchi had GA problems the next day too as a fun bonus.
One of the people in our party had a pork chop and he reported it was āfineā.
For the prices I really expected something closer to fine dining. Service throughout was poor, though I hate to ding a place for that, given the shortage of...

This place just has All The Things!! Artisan drinks are worth the investment. The eclectic Mid Century vibe of Bardo is paired perfectly with that āHome-yā feel, especially if youāre in the Gen X(YooouKnow!!) to the older Millennial group. Reminds you of Mom and Dads home decor of that eraā¦š

Ā Ā Ā Read moreHostess greeted us promptly and was friendly. Our bartender Shanna, was great, friendly, working her but off and provided some good timed interjections. We had the Bardo club, sweeter cocktail for my wife, I had the caught in the rain, a tequila pina colada and the sweet grass, which was sweet & spicy, fresh & herbaceous. I'd start with this next time. Ate at the bar, stool were comfortable and liked to retro/vintage vibe of the decor. Had nostalgia of eating at my old house back in the 70/80s. Between the 2 of us, we had 4 starters split an entree. We began with the pickled vegetables, came with a sweet dip, was ok, Oakland cesar was great, fried capers and soft boiled quail eggs were nice additions, Crispy pork belly was good, a little stringy, maybe better if cut into portions and duck liver mousse with Quince was one of my favorites. The entree was the duck breast and for $40 we did get a good size portion. Definitely enough for 2 or 1 hungry person without the starters. The duck cracklings and celery puree was nice contrast and the meat was cooked perfectly on the rare side. Definitely recommend and will...
