I used to love this place. I had been shopping here for over 20 years. However, Saturday December 18th I experienced the most rude unprofessional behavior from a cashier/customer service rep who was in a blue Colonial Donuts T Shirt. She ignored me while I was in line at the cash register for 10-15 minutes. ( Important, There has always been a separate line for donuts patrons and lottery ticket customers) She ignored me and continued to help her Non African American customers before me. I informed her of her behavior and she yelled and told me I needed to get in line. I was in line at the cash register first, and it is my right to be assisted accordingly. I attempted to cash in my lottery tickets and I heard her tell the other Asian Cashier not to help me and not to cash my lottery tickets. Also the cashier kind of threw the money at me. I decided to inform her about her rude behavior and she stated she was going to call the police. I told her to call them so I can tell the Police how unprofessional they reacted. Also I attempted to video record the incident so the entire Bay Area can see there ill treatment towards a regular African American customer. But unfortunately, my video recording button was not on. So I am posting this so people can know of the ill treatment and...
Read moreThis place is an Oakland GEM! It doesn't matter who you are; they will treat you the EXACT same! Even when the person working doesn't speak a lot of English they are very helpful and positive. I've been frequenting this establishment for several years and when I was temporarily-homeless I could count on them as a place to just hangout without being treated poorly or kicked out. When I taught in OUSD students and staff were always excited when I brought doughnuts from here to work; I even tried another shop and everyone could tell that it wasn't the same place and complained. Lol
People are often in there at 2am playin very colorful games of Chess. Their doughnuts are freshest at 3am--hot and delicious--and are made daily. The coffee is always hot and they have delicious Thai iced-tea. Play the lottery, need a water, want to have a chat with a friend, need a nap during a late-night Uber/Lyft shift? Lock this place into...
Read moreWow, wow, wow. This place is incredible. I'm not even a huge fan of donuts, but the pure deliciousness of their pastries cannot be overlooked.
I work 3 doors down from here at Hearing Zone, which is a major problem. Because I can easily check in and see what JUST came out of the oven, and is thus most ready for my devouring.
Take your pick - apple fritters, pecan maple bar, chocolate bar, rainbow sprinkles, raised glazed, etc - they are all amazing. My go to is the chocolate buttermilk donut ($1.70), which has a ton of mass and that nice crunchy outside, doughy inside. Just writing about it makes me want to snatch one, which is dangerous because (again) it's only 3 doors down from my work. Cold-cut sandwiches are quite good as well.
When that sugar craving hits, look no further than Colonial Donuts. Open 24 hours, 7 days a week. Try one of them, try...
