It was Wednesday & it was also our anniversary, we decided to check out a local restaurant Finney's to celebrate our happy occasion. We were not disappointed with our selection! We were greeted by a beautiful mural of the classic summer vibe as we got out of our car. It was about four thirty, and there was already people waiting outside to be seated. When we walked into the restaurant we were welcomed by a smiling friendly young lady, Eden, the hostess. We requested to be seated out on the patio, she told us it would be about 30 minutes or so but we only waited maybe 10 minutes. We gave our cell number and received a text letting us know our table was ready. We took our time walking upstairs to the balcony. The vibe was happening! You can tell that the staff was very friendly and happy, they were smiling and talking to each other as though they were friends. There were young people celebrating birthdays, families with little kiddos in strollers, and older couples too. For the life of me, I can't remember our waitress's name, but she was really good. I told her I was eating vegetarian and her recommendation was on point, she told us that we could have any of the burgers with beyond meat. We started our meal with a Maui mai tai-it was light and smooth and the flavors were perfectly balanced. Then our appetizers came. Coconut Shrimp-we have literally eaten coconut shrimp all over the world and I was told by my spouse this was some of the best! Perfectly battered, with an amazing sauce. Buffalo Cauliflower was beautifully and perfectly crisp, and the Buffalo sauce complemented the cauliflower well. A gentleman brought our meal to us and said "I was told there was a delay with your meals & I am sorry!" We told him we were enjoying the sunset & the vibe so didn't notice the delay. Prosciutto arugula pizza-this was more a flatbread than a pizza, but it was great. The crust was crisp, as was the prosciutto. The honey really made the sweet and salty tastes come together. Jalapeno egg beyond meat burger-the patty was well cooked, and the egg was sunny side up, but creamy and not runny. After our meal we asked what was the name of the gentleman that brought our food? Our waitress asked if there was a problem, we told her that he was a class act, he acknowledged the delay and apologized, just then he passes by and she called him over and jokingly he said, what did I do now? We informed him directly that he was a class act. And we appreciate his acknowledgement, and that we really see how the staff interact with each other and not just one, but every single one of his staff friendly, polite and come across, like they truly enjoy being there which we really liked. Come to find out, he's the manager. His name is Pourya. We ended the night with a dessert of warm, fresh mini churros with chocolate and butter dipping sauces. Definitely recommend Finney's, and...
Read moreFinney's Crafthouseis now open and these are my first impressions.
Finney's Crafthouse is a chain that has opened in north county and has been expanding to the coast; now they're in Downtown Oceanside.
They serve a variety of American cuisine, including burgers, sliders, chicken & waffles, tacos, salads, pizza, smashburgers, buffalo cauliflower, coconut shrimp and a wide variety of beers and cocktails and boast a large selection of housemade sauces. It should be noted that many of their beers are local brands 🙂 One thing I also appreciated was that $1 from every purchase of Gary's Pepperoni Pizza goes to a local children's hospital.
They have 2 levels for dining, and ground level and an upstairs bar & deck. Downstairs has table, booth and bar seating. Upstairs has small tables for couples, bench tables for groups and bar seating.
There are televisions both upstairs and downstairs, that are good for sporting events & games.
Service was excellent, friendly and attentive. Upon entry, I was greeted by the host and I asked for seating upstairs. They took my name & phone number and I was notified about 12 minutes later that my seat was ready.
After coming upstairs, I enjoyed the breeze and noticed that they also heaters as well. Their rooftop itself is very innovative. Its vented design allows for them to open completely and allow for natural lighting; but they can also completely fold closed and allow for protection from rain or direct sun-rays. The only negative is that they don't have the ocean view
Their menu is not only diverse, but is also very reasonably priced. Most menu items are under $16 and then they have a Happy Hour Special Menu , Monday to Friday , 3PM-5PM, with food options under $9.
I love their musical playlist selection that was playing 80's-90's soft rock and rock classics; perfectly suited the vibe.
I ordered their mini ahi poke tacos and buffalo cauliflower and both were under $10 and very delicious. I can also appreciate their housemade sauces and aiolis.
Overall, I feel that Finney's Crafthouse is a great addition to the downtown Oceanside dining scene and with plans to serve food until 10PM and drinks until 11PM, they pose to help revitalize the nightlife dining scene that downtown so...
Read moreCame here for happy hour during the first week of opening on a Wednesday. It was packed and we managed to score a two-top table by the open windows. It was very bright, which should be good for the food photos!
We ordered: HH Chicken & Waffles - ($7) Excellent! Best I've had in ages and half price.
HH Peggy's Chicken Sammich - ($16) Also very good. Huge piece of chicken.
A5 Wagyu Burger - ($16) Can't really tell it's A5, but still a solid burger.
Truffle Fries - ($5) Standard. Can't go wrong!
HH Watermelon Smash - ($8) Basically vodka & kool-aid. Get a beer instead!
HH Finney's Red & HH Asylum - ($5 + $5) Both excellent! Asylum is like 12% ABV.
Our server, Maribel, was awesome. We chatted quite a bit with her.
NOTE: the bathrooms are downstairs in the back of the bar. It's a long flight, so if you're tipsy, use the handrail and be very careful!
When it comes time to pay, there is no awkwardness like other restaurants that try to guilt you into tipping 25%. You pay by yourself using the small self-serve kiosk terminal on every table (similar to Yard House) and you can email the receipt to yourself!
There was a general buzz of excitement in the air as people around us were settling in for this new restaurant in our backyards. Overall, we enjoyed it very much. Didn't make it upstairs to see the rooftop bar, but will next time!
UPDATE: I came back for another happy hour and this time we ordered the flight of margaritas, the chicken & waffles again, and the coconut shrimp. We weren't that crazy about the coconut shrimp and the margaritas were sweet but didn't seem very strong. Stick to beer and you're...
