Valerie's Taco Shop — Restaurant in Oceanside

This place used to be called Cafe Del Sol. I grew up in this part of town and had gone back to visit this week and decided on my way out of town to stop at one of my previous favorite places to eat. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. I work in the restaurant industry and have for over a decade... I have reasonable expectations when I dine out. The cashier was unpleasant at best. I paid almost $14 for a burrito that was nothing like what was listed on the menu. I ordered a California Burrito, to go with shredded beef instead of the carne asada & added guacamole (wierd since it was a "California Burrito" ). Once I hit the road I opened up the bag and got to my burrito... This darn thing didn't even have french fries or any potato in it not as advertised. For some reason, it was green bell peppers and gigantic chunks of beef, not shredded whatsoever. I ordered shredded beef so I knew that I could eat it while I was driving which is why I didn't get the meat they had advertised. If you don't know, California burritos generally have beef, avocado or some kind of guacamole, cheese and french fries. It was lukewarm less than 10 minutes after I paid for it. Everything tasted days old. I have never left a bad review anywhere. But this was absolutely garbage. Almost $14 and there was nothing in common with what was advertised on the menu. Horrible. I ordered online for pick up, arrived at the estimated ready time, and the cashier said someone else took my food. After about 5 awkward minutes she realized that the food she gave to someone else belonged to me. I asked her if they were going to remake it and she ASKED TO SEE MY ID. I snapped back and asked why I needed to show my ID when she gave my food to someone else without ID. She quickly said the cook would make it again. My daughter started crying from being so hungry after waiting another 20 minutes for what was supposed to be a quick ordeal. The lady never apologized nor offered any reconciliation. THEN she TRIED TO GIVE IT AWAY TO SOMEONE ELSE AGAIN! Thankfully that lady was honest and refused the bag, then the cashier called my name and we were able to get our food. What a MESS. I’ve been here a couple times before and the food was good enough, but after this situation I can’t say the food tastes all that great. I hope the employees here learn to do their jobs better and also that sincere apologies can...

The food was AWESOME. I ate the large California Burrito and it was delicious. My wife had a fish taco and she raved about it the whole way home to Orange County. The rolled tacos were fantastic and my young daughter and one of my sons got the bacon wrapped hot dog, they wanted another one!

Since we ordered the second hot dog about 5-10 minutes after the rest of the food they had ran out of hot dogs and we had to wait 10+ additional minutes because they went and bought more. We were ready to head out back home from the parade and took it with us and when we opened it there were 2! She gave us another one because of the long wait. THANK YOU!

Not only was the food great but the prices were very reasonable in 2023 times with inflation (yes, I said it).it was about $35 to make all 5 of us full and happy.

If we lived closer we would DEFINITELY come...
