"If you really want to make a friend, go to someone's house and eat with him...the people who give you their food give you their heart." These words perfectly suit Veeral Mehta's culinary skills and his beautiful Restaurant Gopuram - Taste of India. He treats his restaurant as his house and its customers as his guest. The very first bite of food instantly reminded me of my home, India! Honestly, this is the best food I have had eaten so far in the United States. Not California, not Seattle, not Phoenix, not New Jersey but here in Oklahoma City. The restaurant is very quiet, serene, clean and have taken all the precautions during the tough Covid-19 times. The owner Veeral Mehta, a superb personality and an ex-Taj Chef is a lovely person to have conversation with. He himself prepared the delicious food and believe me, it was out of the world. We had ordered Ala carte menu. Malai Kofta and Garlic Daal comes with ample amount of Jeera Rice and fresh/crispy Butter Naan to fulfill your taste buds. My wife and I could not stop praising the food till the very last portion was over. There was a balance in the Indian spices and ingredients which gave a blissful aroma to the dishes. We will visit soon with other friends on our next Oklahoma visit. The restaurant is a one hour drive from Stillwater, where I am currently resided but worth to drive to this place than eat at any other place. This will be our permanent place to dine in when in Oklahoma City! Thank you Viral and food manager, Avinash for the...
Read moreWent for a buffet dinner with my parents who were visiting from out of town. This was easily the worst experience I have had at both this restaurant but any indian restaurant in OKC. For starters, while we were in the buffet line we noticed that while bringing us water the waiter had spilled water all over our table/booth and the floor and had not cleaned it up. We had to switch tables after that. In the buffet line itself many items were empty and the staff kept saying that the food was coming but it was taking quite a while - especially as someone who eats only vegetarian food it was frustrating as many of the missing options were the veg ones while the non-veg options were stocked up and brought out on time. While I understand that is not the fault of the wait staff or the kitchen because cooking takes time they should consider stocking up extra at times they are busy since it is very frustrating as a customer to pay a pretty penny and have to wait for the buffet to be stocked. As for the quality for the price, you are better off going to Taj on 23rd street - this buffet was $3 more per person in comparison and I have not had an experience at Taj where there was empty slots in the buffet table. For a total of almost $50 for three people we were probably better off ordering from the menu and sharing a few dishes. I was thoroughly disappointed in my experience at the buffet especially because I have had more positive experiences with this restaurant in the past. Save your money and...
Read moreWe went for dinner buffet. The food on the buffet at first glance looked minimal. Some vegetable options and nothing looked fresh. We went ahead and thought we’d try it. I got the fried spinach and it was cold. The rice was lukewarm and the chicken masala the same. I was getting my plate and saw this roach crawling on the plates. It ran off and onto the buffet and I killed it- see pic. I told the older gentleman working and he just said oh I’m sorry. Wiped it off and didn’t replace the plates or sanitize. When we were leaving he didn’t offer to comp the meal or a discount - obviously with the limited food on the buffet and the cold food- and a health issue- roaches, you’d think he’d say more. He says “I’m sorry we sprayed earlier for roaches”. We’re hoping we don’t get sick. There was only one other couple in the restaurant but if your going to have a buffet make sure it’s worth the $17 a piece that you charge and it’s warm- do the right thing by your customers and their health and safety, clean up area and take plates away that had been crawled on by the roaches. we left concerned for everyone and $35 for a small amount of food- won’t be back. Also, the pictures on website show a beautifully landscaped restaurant that’s lit up and nice. This place is bare. No landscaping and the outside looks in disrepair. Nothing welcoming about it. It used to be better when it was on nw 23rd in a different building years ago. Now it’s on skid row with homeless...
