Chipotle Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Opelika

I was EXCITED when I saw that Chipotle FINALLY came to Opelika and could not wait to eat there!!! I ate there for dinner the other day and was HIGHLY disappointed as soon as I walked in the door!

This location was more of a "small cafe" Chipotle and did not have its traditional ambiance. The tables were filthy as well as the condiments section. So, I decided to carry-out.

When I got to the order area the food did not look fresh and appeared to be dry. After waiting a brief moment for fresh food (that I HAD to request) I ordered my usual: Chicken (was VERY dry) Burrito Bowl with White Cilantro Rice (had no flavor and was mushy), Black Beans ("blah beans"), Light amount of sour cream (it was watery/runny), Pico de Gallo (was delicious and fresh), Corn Salsa (it was mediocre), Guacamole (it was okay), Cheese, and Lettuce (was very fresh), and Chips (too salty and stale chips were mixed with fresh chips inside of the bag), and Guacamole.

I'm a BIG foodie and Chipotle has ALWAYS been one of my Top Ten Restaurants. This location is NOT going to be able to fill that "Chipotle Craving" I get. I'll continue to do what I was doing before this location came to the area...eat at Chipotle when I travel to Atlanta.

Sorry Opelika Chipotle, but as a "new" restaurant you all are starting off on a bad note. There were a lot of young/teenagers "running" the kitchen. I do not know who the manager is/was, but it would be nice to have a more mature (in age) person there as well. This is the worst Chipotle I’ve ever been to and it’s been this way for far too long. We just got take out from there and I’m now done “giving them another chance”.

1. Wow, they were so rude — they were rolling their eyes and the young woman at the register had absolutely zero respect with a very unapologetic attitude. The way she looked like she was asked to mop the floor when a woman simply asked for the bag of chips that she had ordered (literally just say “Ok, sure..” and turn around and grab the already made bag of chips) — Chipotle needs to know that this location is in absolute shambles.

2. I threw away my steak bowl halfway through because it didn’t taste good and I’m now trying to convince myself that I’m not actually feeling sick from it.

3. There were sticky drink lids laying around and my toddler picked one up off the floor. Even he said ewwww. And there’s was a mountain of ice that had been piling up and needed to be cleared.

A lot of this stuff I’m usually just whatever about but the aggregate of how bad this place has been for as long as it has been is why they are finally getting this well overdue bad review.

The food sucks. The proportions are always off. I basically had a sour cream bowl with steak and toppings mixed in. But the worst part by far has consistently been the service and the attitudes of the frontline workers. They literally make you feel like you are ruining their day when you walk in or ask for anything, and there’s absolutely zero payoff whatsoever. This place needs a...

New Edit- May 26, 2025- Dropped in this evening, around 8pm. It was not busy, but old food was ALL over the board where they prepare customer's food. It was unsightly and very gross. The guy behind the counter was going out of his way to not have to talk to or acknowledge customers. My previous experiences with him were that he doesn't smile at customers and works hard to only say the minimum amount of words possible.

It was just gross tonight. A year ago, this Chipotle showed major improvement, but it has gone downhill. So sad. Usually love Chipotle. I'd skip this one and go to the other one across from the mall.

Edit Dec 2023- I would now rate 5 stars. The new manager is amazing! This place has been transformed to be the Chipotle we know and expect. Well done!

Old review- Very dirty! This location is consistently dirty. We have checked in several times over the course of a year. Dirty food prep area, not a single table is clean, there isn't a trash can outside, staff sometimes seems very unmotivated.
