i feel so bad leaving 2 stars on a business that i use to love and cherish so much. and yet, i think 2 stars is still more than enough.
iâve been eating from the Vegan Hot Dog Cart in dt Orlando since 2018/19. when it was the actual cart, it was never disappointing. you had so many options! so many already created comboâs too. which were always my favorite because there wasnât anything better than. last night, 09/24/22 (Saturday) i went to an event and in the middle of the event, started thinking about what i was going to indulge in. i instantly thought of VHDC and was looking forward to it so much that i actually left right after the thought came about. left my friends behind to go find my bliss in a couple of scrumptious bites. VHDC was actually only hundreds of feet away. when i arrived, i realized that i had only seen the sign but nothing outside. anyway, fast forwardâ i was directed into this bar (which was really cool and the people in there were having totes fun!) proceeded to a counter top in the back, where you scan a QR code and thatâs how you order from VHDC now. the set up of the menu online was poorly designed. barely options. charging for extra but not allowing you to pick from the rest of the choices that didnât have an up charge. so i can have what i want but again, not exactly? cause after four toppings, no matter if you want to pay for the extras, it still doesnât allow you to choose them.
at the end of ordering an item, it gives you the option of leaving a comment/special request. and since i couldnât add on anything else, i made sure to pick everything necessary, and then just asked for some sauce on top (that wasnât marked with an up charge) as well.
when i finally received my dogs (i ordered two), i was still excited. and what was that for. i opened them, barely any of the toppings were on there. almost nonexistent. itâs like they just sprinkled it a little with the toppings and i guess they thought that was enough. mind you, this was coming from a place where, when the cart was outside, youâd be thrilled to enjoy it because you just knew it would be perfection. the raw onions that i paid extra for, i think there was like 4/5 pieces on there? anyway, overall so so disappointing from what it once was.
not sure if the actual cart, actually comes out anymore. but if not, please bring it back. it use to be quality then.
oh, and i had to throw out my second dog! because they put almost no toppings on it but made sure to drench it in the sauce i had requested. soggy before i could even take...
Read moreYesterday was the annual Tampa Bay Veg Fest. Z-Bot, J-Fur and I arrived at Cotanchobee Park late in the afternoon when a lot of the crowds seemed to have thinned out. We had free reign to move about the park and explore the anti-animal cruelty product vendors at our leisure. There was one pretty long line in the park so I moved closer to check it out. Wouldn't you know it, Orlando's Vegan Hot Dog Cart had made the trek over to Tampa. The cart was offering three hot dog versions: the "Merica dog with ketchup, mustard, relish and saurkraut, the Olde Reliable covered with five bean chili, vegan cheeze, onions and paprika and the Holiday dog which included Florida orange-cran chutney, Carolina BBQ mustard sauce and fried onions.
I bookmarked the Vegan Hot Dog Cart about a year ago as a place I really wanted to try. Back in 2014 the Holiday Dog was ranked by PETA as the number one vegan hot dog in America. I decided that would be the dog for me.
Holy wow, was this dog amazing. Texture wise, it wasn't as chewy as the prepackaged versions you can get at the store. The dog (and bun) basically melted in your mouth. The orange-cran chutney, bbq mustard and fried onions flowed nicely with the dog. None of the flavors stood out, instead they morphed into one giant swirl of sweet, sour and crispy. Despite all the toppings, this wasn't one of those dogs that you have to clean up with a fork. All of the toppings stayed nicely pillowed in between those two bun walls.
The only thing that I was less than enthusiastic about was paying $5.50 (with a credit card). This price seemed a bit steep based on the size of the dog you got. But when you are an award winning food developer, you have a right to charge for your craft. Ultimately the price didn't deter me yesterday and it won't deter me next time the Vegan Hot Dog Cart and I...
Read moreI have photos on my phone. But not on the computer. This is my first time eating here. and I am very disappointed. One I was injured. I came in, the server walked out after telling us to order online. I could barely walk, he told me nada about the menu and I had to signal him down because he was outside by himself with his friend. I finally got him and his customer service was so horrible. He wouldn't explain, I had to keep asking. He then saw I purchased and still proceed to take like 10 minutes before cooking our order. He finally went to cook, Came back told me my orders were ready. Mind you I am injured and using crutches. He placed my food all the way down the bar. I''m not saying cater me to my car. But try to help me make the acceptance and travel not long. I walked a long crowded walk all the way to the other side of the bar. Struggled out the door with my 3 bags of food. Nothing was in it, no ketchup or napkins.
I had to ask for all of that stuff and wait long to receive them.
I would like to add no one was before me or after. It was only me there late at night and my sister, helping to park cause you can't park out front. And I can't walk far right now.
Now the food was cold, and we ate it as soon as we got in the car. I just couldn't stand going back with all my pain. Not only was it cold, the food was mixed up, After I gave him specific instructions and take a picture of what we ordered. Orders were mixed up in each bag and My sister and I ended up eating the wrong combos then have to switch foods mid eating it. due to mix up. I was mad, she ate my sausage cause of...
