I usually avoid new restaurants until they've had time to work out their bugs. However, being a sister restaurant to City Walk, I couldn't wait, and I'm glad I didn't! It wasn't hard to make a reservation, and they were understandably busy. The prices aren't much different from City Walk, and they had a great variety of food and drink. Their alcohol list was extensive, though the beer/hard cider list was limited. The atmosphere was relaxed, but nice. You'd fit in well in any outfit you come in. We wore jeans and nice shirts and were met with the same kindness and respect everyone else was given. We ordered the jumbo pepper jack sticks, and were not ready for just how large they were! They were good, but I found it difficult to get through one. You must really like pepperjack to get through all five. We also got the fried onion, which was also very good. My husband ordered the ribeye, which was on the higher end of pricing, but he said it was hands down the best steak he's had. It was juicy and flavorful. He got green beans and broccoli as his sides and was happy with both. I ordered the filet with asparagus and mashed potatoes. The steak was PHENOMENAL. I really cannot brag on it enough. Perfectly seasoned and cooked, nice and juicy. The asparagus was delicious too, but the mashed potatoes left a lot to be desired. They had the texture and lack of flavor you'd get from instant mashed potatoes, very sticky and putty like. When asked, the worst swore they weren't instant, and immediately offered a different side, which was much appreciated. I got fries as a replacement, which were delicious.

Firstly- it should be shared that we found parking to the right of the building entering from Frederica heading away from the riverfront onto 5th Street. We arrived early for our valentines dinner reservations to scope out the atmosphere of the former Mike Callas owned candy shop. And of course to enjoy some kid free drinks! The room was lit very romantically dark and red, the vintage romance something owensboro should be proud to offer. The waiters clad in black and maroon attire, some with fancy red laced/rose embroidered vests. Mike callas's history and pictures of the former candy shop placed eloquently along the walls. Chef Anthony, as had done previously at our visit to his City Walk graced us with his presence at the bar as we waited, and as always was an easy conversation. Not soon to forget to share his pride in his craft, and rightfully so! When time for our dinner reservations we were brought upstairs to the chandelier room and chose from the valentines day menu. Our menus, seating, and glassware all thoughtfully placed and felt of genuine sturdiness and attractiveness. I'll let the pictures of the rest do the most talking. Please make reservations to keep this gem at the very least a yearly visit for amazing food, atmosphere, and genuine support for someone who clearly loves their craft/his staff, included-all, where amazing šŸ‘ šŸ’Ž a huge thank-you to my husband for this date night!

A True Owensboro Gem! The Callas in Owensboro, KY is full of rich character and vintage elegance—from the intricately carved statues flanking the bar to the framed mirrors and ornate ceiling tiles. The whole place feels like a high-end saloon where history and style shake hands. We started with the fried onion tanglers and pepper jack cheese sticks—both were fantastic. The breading was light, crispy, and clearly made in-house. I also had a mango TajĆn margarita, which was surprisingly refreshing and balanced. Later, I paired my filet with a glass of Three Hands red blend, which complemented the meal beautifully. The filet was excellent in flavor and tenderness, though it arrived several minutes after everyone else’s entrees and was cooked more well-done than the medium-well I requested—maybe the chef has a quiet bias against well-done steaks (ha!). The mashed potatoes had a crusted top from too long under a warming lamp but still tasted great, and the asparagus was fresh and nicely done. Big shoutout to Cylee, our waitress, who was friendly, attentive, and on top of everything from start to finish. All in all, the food, the drinks, the service, and the ambiance came together for a fantastic night out. Despite minor timing issues with the meal, it’s an easy five stars from me. I’ll definitely be back.

A group of six of us went to the Callas Tavern and Restaurant March 25th 2025. Our expectation was high but what we ate was not. The mushroom appetizer and sauce did not rate high among us. The dipping sauce was very bland because it needed something in it like horseradish sauce to make it good with the mushrooms. One person had the pasta and was not pleased. The second person had Creole red snapper and said that he would not order it again. Another person ordered the mac and cheese and said it liked flavor. Two people got the southern catfish which was indeed very good but the sides were lackluster. The Cajun slaw was not good and looks like cooked cabbage. The mashed potatoes were hard and far from fluffy. Two people got dessert, one of which asked for extra sauce so that it would be very moist but when she put it in the to-go box there was no extra sauce in it. Our server was lovely but she had the job of waiting on, what it looked like, was the whole restaurant. We understood why it was impossible for her to get our drinks and other things to us without a long wait because of this.

City Walk is head and shoulders better and they have some of the same foods. Don't spend more money for this food when you can have it for less at City Walk.

I posted this the day after a reservation. It's 2 months later and I didn't get a response which was disappointing. Do you not do follow-ups on...
