I had some reservations after reading the reviews but the lower starred reviews did not reflect the experience of our group. I called and they only take reservations for 10 people and above, we were just a party of five. They offered two tasting of their beer. I tasted the cranberry and walnut, both were good. I ordered a flight or dark and lager, and one IPA all were well rounded. Our group did love the chocolate notes in the coffee beer. Appetizers ordered tots with beer cheese and ranch and pretzels with grainy mustard and beer cheese. Both were wonderful. The pretzel is cut into slices, was buttery, salty, soft on the inside and a chewy crust. The beer cheese is bright and flavorful. The grainy mustard was tart, sharp and flavorful. Both complemented the pretzels and tots. Three ordered the kale salad, they were out of strawberries and substituted blueberries, the grilled chicken was left off one salad but was rectified quickly. I ordered the classic with tots and our friend ordered the Waylon burger with brisket, onion rings and BBQ with fries. I tried a bite of the brisket, it was smokey, juicy and tender with a little gristle but not enough to be off putting. My cheddar burger was perfectly cooked and dressed, I love the scallion aoli. Both of us stated we were surprised the tomato tasted like a summer tomato. Our friend said the fries were good. I enjoyed the tots as an appetizer so much I ordered them for dinner too, I just wished I had ordered a sauce but I improvised and dipped them into the drippings from my burger, yummy! We shared the sweet potato beignets, they are dark because they are caramelized, we all loved them. Madison was a good server, attentive and...
Read moreI really want to like this place. It has so much potential. With that said, tonight’s experience was not good. After waiting nearly 15 minutes sitting at the bar, I had to flag the bar back down and ask for help. The first bar tender she asked ignored me and I was finally able to catch the other in front of me after a few minutes sitting patiently. It was like I was putting them out to ask them to serve me.
I wish it got better from here. It was clear the bar hadn’t been wiped down all night and the previous patron’s dirty glasses stayed at my station like they were decorations. The bar staff never even asked if they could remove the clutter or clean the dirty bar top.
The only good thing I can say is the food came out quickly after I ordered. Probably because the fish was undercooked and soggy. I was not impressed. The breading was bland and the soggy fish made my fries equally as soggy because they presented it on top of the fries.
The worst part was what I’m assuming was the manager was dressed in Nike workout shorts and a tie dye t-shirt and was far more interested in flirting with patrons than helping his staff. And, they certainly could have used the help. He did, however, discount or comp a ticket for an attractive lady at the bar. I couldn’t get service without making a scene and he spent significant time checking on her and discounting her food? Probably the worst manager I’ve seen in a very long time.
Look at my other reviews and you’ll see I don’t take pleasure in giving a negative review but this place deserves it. I hope they get it together. The place has a lot...
Read moreThis was our first visit to Goodwood and after this fine dining experience will not be our last. With that said, it is a casual setting within view of the Ohio River near the riverfront in Owensboro and the lighted bridge accents the background. We walked right in as no reservations were needed. Bella was our phenomenal server who made countless trips to ensure our visit was perfect. Out of our group of five, there was nothing but praise for every dish served here. I can attest and give huge thumbs up to the blackened catfish over dirty rice with likely the best collards I have ever tasted. Our appetizer was a massive pretzel as you can see in the photos offering a mustard or cheese dip for added flavoring. I always say if I'm sad to eat my last bite of the meal, it's more than worth my time and effort to revisit a restaurant again. One additional note: Try the Sweet potato beignets as a dessert, trust me, it's delicious! I have not seen parking anywhere in Owensboro that you pay for, so free parking is a...
