I'm giving this place three stars because I do not think that it would be fair to completely desecrate their business with a lower one. However, as of today, I've had my last meal here. All of my friends stop eating here months ago but I was the last one still hanging on. Firstly, I have ordered from this establishment four times in the last month, spending at minimum 25.00 dollars each time and every time my food came in a different container. First it was the black rectangular container with clear lid, which I didn't mind, I actually kind of liked it. Then came the smaller clear circular container with matching lid, okkk. Later, due to my referral an American coworker of mine ordered from there at lunchtime, her food came in a small personal-size pizza box. Yep, you read that correctly an actual pizza box and the inside of the lid actually said, yep you guessed it "pizza", they do not sell pizza. The last one happened today, my order came to 30.00, as I was walking back to my car, I noticed something was off. I looked in the bag and saw things that looked like subs. I automatically thought that they had given the in correct order. However, after examining the contents, I found that yes, the two beefs suyas that I ordered were wrapped in paper, not unlike the ones your dinnerware would be wrapped in from Marshalls/TJM/HGs. Yes, other establishments sell/wrap food in paper but I am paying 5/6 dollars at Subway, not 30! Even after this, I decided to not make a big deal about it and drove off. Then I got home to place my food in appropriate containers and found that all of the spices had absorbed into the paper and barely any was left on the food itself. The drive to my house from the restaurant is only 12 mins, 15 max. Even that, I could get past, then came the smell. The beef smelled like it was a day old. We all know what day-old meat smells like. I called them to make a complaint, was told that "usually the beef is made the day of", so it couldn't possibly be old. Here's the thing, I also ordered the same beef suya last night omw home from work and it smelled very fresh, my coworker ordered the same beef suya and plantains this past Wednesday, with the expection of both orders coming in pizza boxes, the food, again smelled and looked fresh. The beef that was given to me today neither smelled nor looked fresh. It literally had a slight sour/tangy smell to it and looked and tasted like beef that had been re-heated. So, because of everything stated here and lots more that I can't be bothered to write or this review will be longer than it already is, I've decided to stop patronizing this establishment.
Edit: I am not surprised in the least at the tantrum thrown below by the "owner". Sir(s), do not kid yourselves to think of your business as "new and innovative" when all you are doing is utilizing the same corrupted, penny-pinching and greedy strategies with which most African businesses operate. Rather than take the time to ensure you not selling spoilt food to your guests, you instead decided that it would be a better use of your time to spew the nastiness with which you run your business below, showcasing publicly, the immoral, neglectful, disrespectful and dont-care manner with which YOU run your business. Your tangent on corrugated cardboard boxes does not explain why "pizza" was on there. Unless you are attempting the lie that the manufacturer is/was incapable of making you a plain box with which you could "experiment". No sir, what is more believable is, those pizza boxes may have been a surplus and you may have gotten them at little to no cost, because you know, GREED? You claim that the inconsistency with your containers is due to your business' experimentation with different materials in order to decide which is better. Except that doesn't explain the two plastic containers, or why now, almost two years into your 2nd opening, and it certainly does not explain the changes in your containers within the same week or one week of each other, as that allows no time to gather adequate data on...
Read moreVisited this restaurant on a visit to MD with some family for the first time. The experience was horrible! When we entered there were only 2 people in line in front of us in line by the time we left there were about 20 people or more there. We all placed separate orders. Once ordered, we waited about 15-17 mins for the 1st order (Shrimp Soya) with PuffPuffs when I got my order, the PuffPuffs (a fried dough) were ice cold. Again, this being my 1st time eating this kind of food, I was unsure if the dough is typically served cold with a hot dish or warm. When I went up to ask if they were supposed to be cold (addressing the man on the outside of the register also taking orders, the lady in the register with the curly weave chimed in. She had such an unpleasant and off-putting demeanor. Instead of answering my question, she asked me for the food back which I at that time handed her the bag my PuffPuffs were in. She sits the bag down and goes to the food display with a plate and proceeds to put them on a plate. Unsure of what she was doing with the plate, I advised her we were not dining in, as I assumed she was getting me hot PuffPuffs from the warmer to sit down and eat. She said "you did want them hot right?! I explained I just wanted to know how they were eaten if they came hot or cold, etc but instead of explaining, she just dismissed my question. To my disgust, she took my bread and microwaved them for 3 mins! Anyone who cooks knows that heating bread like that makes it tough 😡. Once she finished microwaving, I just took the bread and sat down to wait for our other food. Mind you my other food is now getting cold since we could not sit down and eat UNLESS A 18% fee was accessed to the bill!
My 2nd order was over 30mins to get (Beef Soya) it was dried out like beef jerky and the dish didn't even come with a side so my family member had to pay for a side. The 3rd dish was supposed to be the deep-fried fish dish which at over 35 mins we still didn't have. My family member eventually canceled her order and we left with cold food by that time to have to take home and reheat. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a good dining experience. They clearly do not care about the customer experience just the...
Read moreI would usually give Suya Spot Owings Mills a 5 star rating; however, my last visit was unfortunatley one that I wish could have been a lot better. To start, I ordered one of my favorite dishes which was the chicken suya and requested that extra home made sauce be added to it. When I arrived to the resturaunt I was told my meal was still being prepared so I sat down and waited. While waitng, I observed a number a young women dancing and joking around while working which I really dont mind as long as they continue to do their job well and serve the customers efficiently. Then I soon realized that almost 30 min had past of me waiting and I still had not recieved my food. That is when one of the servers finally came handed to me my meal and said smiling that my food had been sitting in the back and had been done for a long time. I still dont get why that seemed to be so amusing to her. Nevertheless, I then went to my car and began eating because I was very hungry; however, after taking a few bites I soon realized that no extra sauce was added which wasent a big deal to me because I thought I would just go back in the store and ask for some more. Unfortunatley this was a big mistake. When I went back in and asked for more sauce the cashier and an employee in the back gave me some wierd looks as if I was asking for a free meal and when the cashier came back out, she smiled directly in my face and handed me a pitiful amount of sauce in the container (I wish I had taken a picture to show how silly the amount of sauce was) which honestly offended me a great deal. I would have felt allot better if she had just told me that either they dont give extra sauce or that it would cost me a little bit more for it which I would have gladly paid extra. But she didnt, she came out smiling in my face as if it was a joke and told me that it was all she could spare me. That said my confidence in Suya Spot's generosity and hospitality has been greatly diminshed and I question whether I will ever eat there again...
