O'Pub is like the moon. Think of that big capitalized O as our celestial partner in Earth's journey through space and time. On one side, which is the true, geosynchronous heart of O'Pub, we have the bright visible face. This is the bar during the school year; vibrant, busy, and the center of attention. O'Pub controls the tides of the city of Oxford with it's gravitational pull in the going out scene of the city. Do you like wine? Wednesday. Do you like Martinis? Monday. Do you like losing at Trivia? Tuesday. Do you like being around many, many people and contemplating the need for earplugs? Most days.
Then, we have the dark side of the moon. The deep wood of the walls and tall booths, the dim lighting of the establishment, the distance. This is O'Pub during much of the summer, and it became a favorite spot of mine. A place of quiet contemplation and mystery. A place that a band from the sixties would write a concept album around. Although Ohio law allows for minors to drink with consenting parentals on site, this establishment does not—only 21 and older are allowed in. And the long narrow hallway to the open area bar gives it a mystique in its own right as only the seniors on Miami of Ohio campus and the local people of Oxford know the history and specialness of this pub.
